Passenger side hub has excessive runout causing .023" runout at new rotor face but no other symptoms. Do I need to replace this Hub and Bearing assembly ?

    The maximum runout is 0.0020”
But it needs to be checked at the hub face.
    Not the rotor.

As for runout, I have never checked it.
I’m like most people, I wait until I hear a noise in the bearing

The run out at the Hub is about .010". I checked it while replacing calipers , rotors and pads. Brakes were thumping and in poor shape. Does this warrant changing the hub assembly?

That’s 5x the maximum. Are you sure you are reading the dial indicator correctly?
If so, then you should probably replace the bearing.

I would think if it’s bad enough to cause the brakes to “thump”, you’d be hearing a noise too.
Are the rotors new? The majority of the time, brake “thump” is a rotor issue.

I believe I am reading the dial correctly. I get acceptable readings on the driver's side. The thumping started as pulsing some time ago. The inner pad appeared to have been seized on the slider. Caliper pistons on that side may have been seized also. Thumping indicated to me that rotors needed changing.
Further inspection showed heavy corrosion on calipers , rotors and pads so I am replacing them. I measured runout as .023" at the new rotor face and .010 at the hub. Might this runout have led to the brake degradation. I guess I am looking for confirmation that the runout warrants replacing the hub and bearing assembly. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

A severely worn hub can cause uneven brake wear.
But not a piston or caliper failure. If you’re doing the brakes and rotors, you’re already 75% there on doing a hub.

It’s 1 wheels sensor bolt, and axle nut (if 4WD), and 4 bolts holding the hub on.
I’d go ahead and throw a hub on it.

I'm more concerned about cost than work required. From my location Rockauto appears to be my best source. Can you recommend a slightly better than middle of the road assembly.

I am running the Beck/Arnely assemblies.
Been on there for about 30k now. As far as I can tell, they seem to still be doing ok

Other than that, I have no first hand experience with any other brands.
I’ve heard the NAPA assemblies use SKF bearings, but can’t confirm it.

If you want known good quality assemblies, I’d go with a set form @05Taco4x4
If you can’t afford to spend that, it’s understandable. Sometimes we have to do,what we have to do.

I have a 2008 tacoma 4x2 2.7L 4-cylinder truck. I need to know if the 4x4 and 4x2 Front Wheel bearings and hub assembly are the same or compatible with one and other.
