Been noticing while parking that my truck pops while reversing. Only once, and it feels like it’s coming from back the rear. Anyone notice same?

Nope, truck just starts rolling backwards. If only once maybe you ran over something.

I ignored it for first few times but noticed it was occurring in the same time. Almost like it was popping mid turn while reversing. Like it has something to do with steering.
Isn’t problematic but annoying hearing the noise and not knowing what it could be and what is possibly happening.
    Could it be sway bar?

Start by checking your axle u-bolts and carrier bearing are tight and to torque spec.

    Are you lifted?

I’ll have to listen on my next trip on the road. It’s definitely a pronounced noise, not like rubbing or a squeak.
I’m not lifted. Lifting it Aug. 3rd.
I’ll ask him to take a look while install. That’s a great idea.

Follow-up weird-ass questions: before reversing, did you recently release the parking brake? Does it happen when turning in either direction or just in one direction?

And finally, it's not just in one location is it; you aren't backing over the same pothole every time? :cookiemonster:

U joints need checking too. Classic to first hear that noise in reverse as the joints load in a different direction.

Happens when I reverse to my left. Not same spot geographically, but every time I reverse in that direction.
@Clearwater Bill ill ask about those joints as well. Thank you.

If it only happens when the wheels are turned, odds are very high it's in the front end.

I have that on my 5th gen 4runner. Im pretty sure its the front sway bar link bc the boot is torn and its not had any grease in it for a while.

Try taking the links off and see if it goes away.

What size tires are you running? First rub point is in reverse with slightly cocked wheel, if it catches the plastic like inner flair / mudflap it can make a pop sound.

Is this happening the first time braking after going into reverse?

Sounds like your front brake pads shifting as they bias from one side of the calipers to the other, with a change in direction. My truck downs this all the time. Toyota says it is normal.
