When can I test drive a 2024 Tacoma?

I'm thinking it will be two years before you can walk in a Toyota deslership and test drive a new 4th gen.

Or you put a refundable deposit or no deposit down and then go test drive it and then pass on it until you are ready to buy.

Only 3 of these 8 allocations are spoken for:

    https://www.pepperstoyota.com/searchnew.aspx?year=2024&model=tacoma

Only 213 of the 970 allocated TRD ORs show a dealer hold on them.

Also the dealers charging ADM will probably have them ready for test drives.

I'm talking a normal test drive where you go down to the dealer and see if it's a truck you want to drive.

I think you are correct that it will be awhile before you can casually walk into a Toyota Dealer and test drive a.new Tacoma.

All my investigation puts the Gen4 Tacoma TRD offroad cost about $10,000 more than a Gen 3 Tacoma before Covid and I have to wait 6+ months.
The TRD offroad with some packages and common dealer markup is $55,000. Heated seats and steering wheels are difficult to find. South Dakota can go sub-zero for a week in the winter and heat gets very desirable.

In contrast, the 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro4x in any config or color can be had now for $45k with heated seats and steering wheel.
The biggest complaint on the Pro4x is ground clearance relative to the TRD offroad. For $300 and a few hours work, anyone can lift a Pro4x 1.5" with the NISMO kit.

I think the Nissan Frontier is a great option for those pining for a non turbo V6 and conventional ergonomics e.g. no tablet balanced on the dash. Surprised it doesn't get more wordage here. The Colorado/Canyon gets lots. Maybe it's just the newness cool factor. Frontier looks less tendy, as does the current Ranger which doesn't get much love either.

    Test drive? Nah.

Rugged-looking pictures are clearly visible on the website. Photoshop a recent holiday picture of yourself into the driver’s seat, to see how happy you look while driving it.

The configurator says it’ll be over $50k with heated seats, which is clearly a great bargain when compared to a TRX.

Plus, YouTube influencers all agree that it drives better.

Good to go: just make the deposit check out to your local Toyota dealer, and wait for further instructions to pick it up sometime in March.

    Lots to come
Love this, use the ADM loving dealers as test drive spots, waste their time then go buy a truck at an msrp dealer.

The Nissan Frontier isn’t bad, looked at them, but weren’t quite out yet when I bought my ‘21 Tacoma.

Still can get the King Cab with the suicide doors, and interior styling isn’t over the top like the new Tacoma, be a good middle-aged man truck who isn’t trying to prove anything. :)

Those little jump seats look like they fold out of the way to make a decent amount of cargo room, take out those little plastic bins too.

The King Cab S starts at reasonable price too.

I paid 34k for a King Cab Pro-4X with 1,400 miles on it in May, like a week before the Tacomas were announced.

I'm a Toyota guy through and through, but I'm content with my decision at this time. Especially since they aren't offering a TRDOR with the extended cab.

I put 15k miles on it this year, and just a few petty complaints. I'm very happy with the drivetrain. I do think it will feel a little outdated soon with all the new designs coming out, but I'm okay with that.

If only the Ridgeline looked somewhat bad@ss, it would clearly win the mid-size truck battle. Sat in and scrounged around a 24' black edition (in black paint) last weekend and it checks so many boxes. In black it hides the kitchen appliance look a little and the interior is pretty decent with impressive rear seat space. It's a shame they got rid of the 6 speaker bed/tailgating option just as Toyota offered a tiny little JBL bluetooth speaker.

My how times have changed. In the fall of 2015 I was checking out the 3rd Gen Tacoma inventory at my 4 closest Toyota dealers. Each dealer had about 3 to 7 trucks available for sale. I found the exact Tacoma I wanted at my closest dealer and paid a couple hundred dollars below MSRP. Then a couple of months later I drove my Tacoma to the 2016 Auto Show (because i got free tickets). It was amusing to see all the people oohing and aahing over the new 3rd Gen which I had been driving for a couple of months.

From what I was told by my dealership, you’ll start seeing them by mid February. It may be a month or so till ones sitting on the lot

The frontiers are nice . Someone I work with has one and it’s NOT a pro 4 x but it’s a really nice truck . Nice and simple straightforward

I rented an SV Frontier a year ago, drove it across the state. Nice highway truck, excellent powertrain, 20+ mpg, ride was just a little choppy on rough pavement. Felt like Nissan balanced just enough new tech with older legacy-parts underneath to keep it reasonable. I don’t stalk the Nissan owner sites, but I wouldn’t think someone would regret owning it. I am positive they wouldn’t regret the monthly payments versus a ‘24 Tacoma though.

That's pretty much the consensus on the owner's opinions from the boards and groups I'm in. No frills, solidly build mid size pickup. Very little complaints on the drive train, and that seems to be their strongest point.

I don't think they make sense at MSRP. But slightly used ones can be had for a steal.
