Hello I was wondering if anyone had pictures of offset wheels on their tacoma. I was looking into black rhino realm wheels but they’re back ordered. I also don’t fully understand the offset measurements and was wondering if anyone had pictures of theirs and how they perform.

Negative offset pushes the wheels out
Positive offset tucks the wheels in

    RRW RR5-S 16x8 | -12 offset (~1.5 of poke)

Rubbing is something that you may have to deal with. Wheels with too much positive offset can rub against the UCAs

Offset is the distance, in mm, the mouting surface is from center of the wheel. Positive offset puts the mounting surface inboard of center, negative puts it outboard and zero offset is centered.
Your stock wheel is a 16"x7" +25mm offset. As an example, a 16"x8" 0mm would move the mounting surface 1" inboard of where it currently sits. To determine poke and/or backspace, you would need to also consider overall rim width.

I really have a problem wrapping my head around the whole tire/wheel lift/off set issues to the point that it scares me away form doing a wheel and tire mod/upgrade :(

So, if one was looking for a more “aggressive” look, you would want a - (negative) offset or a + (positive) offset?

Right now I have stock lift 2019 TRD Sport 4 x 4 DCLB. I was looking at this wheel 17x9 with a -12 offset with a set of 275/70/17 tires. Would I need a lift? Was thinking about doing Bilstein 5100 in the front and 6112’s in the rear. Would this work out?

    Any thoughts/advise more than welcome.

If you are having trouble visualizing how the wheels will change then try this tool Put in your stock numbers and then the numbers you are switching too. It gives you a good idea of the changes.

Let me caveat my posts, by saying I prefer to use inboard and outboard when describing direction of wheel offset movement. You don't necessarily have to have negative offset to get more poke. For example, you have a 17"x7.5" +30mm offset; a 17"x7" +4mm would give about an inch of poke.

Here's a link to an offset calculator; it has your current and proposed wheel and tire. Here's an example of the reason a more inboard offset affects rubbing fore and aft in the wheel well.
In this above view, the red cross shows where your SAI is. This is the axis on which your tire turns.
With more inboard offset, the outside corner of the tire rotates about a larger radius. Thus, moving forward and aft more when turned.
    Untitled.jpg

Lift gets clearance for increased tire height and rarely helps fore/aft; it tends to help more with less aggressive lift and stance. It also changes the suspension geometry. Depending on amount of lift, this may require more backspace, at which point you have to consider offset, overall rim width and tire width.

    It's a 3D puzzle with numerous solutions...
No one can definitively say, "if you get this wheel/tire with this lift it will clear". Usage, caster setting, tire size variances, etc. all contribute in some way.

Just wanted to thank everyone on this thread after I read thru it I got black rhino offset at 0 on some bf Goodrich KO2s and couldn’t be happier.

OP, I have zero offset 702 Method wheels. If you ever decide to get Fox 2.5 with DSC’s suspension, just know that you may either need to get new wheels with bigger negative offset or wheel spacers to clear. I bent the bracket that holds the resi on my passenger side as the tires were rubbing the resis. I was lucky it didn’t pull off the resis completely.

How much offset is needed? I just ordered some 2.5's from @AccuTune Offroad and have 0 offset Method's as well. Planning on a 8mm spacer to make them -8 offset to clear the SPC's with a 34" tire, but not planning for more than that.
