    Describe your prep.
Do you remember if you used a stripper or just sand paper?
    No primer? Clearcoat?

So if I remember correctly I used acetone to strip the wheels clear coat, then primed/sanded, then coated them. It was a very simple process.

I am, surprise. FWIW, I've always used this for aluminum.

    https://www.rustoleum.com/en/product-catalog/consumer-brands/professional/aluminum-primer-spray

But I'm talking about new, raw aluminum. How alloy wheels differ would be important, since they are usually at least clear coated, perhaps anodized, etc.

That's close to what I envision painting these wheels, maybe a little darker.

Depending on the lighting it is darker. I love those wheels!

They are one of my favorite Toyota wheels. Went with a 17" rim because 255/80s are a little cheaper than 255/85s.

Looking for something like this, except a little more gloss.

Or a nod to the original Toyota pickup.

    Hey nice photoediting!
Perhaps one drawback to shiny wheels is the contrast or accent they cause against a dull black tire

I gave mine a quick clean with a rag, sanded them with 220 on the rougher spots first until i was into undamaged clear then gave them a good sand with a red scothbrite pad.I then wiped them off with a damp rag, masked wheel and sprayed.Dont overthink it, your just spray bombing wheels.

Duplicolor graphite with gloss clear. A little too dark in my opinion. 0721181100c.jpg

+1 for Duplicolor again. Did my stockers and they look (almost) like new. (couple sags if you look for them, it's a thin paint and metallic)
sand, prime and paint. No biggie. Cheap to do.
I also put about 5-6 coats of clear.

oh yeah, I masked off the outer lip hoping the tire machine wouldn't just crunch it off. So far so good.
