Goodmorning taco brothers amd sisters. Recently I heard a clunk noise when making a deep turn and I think it is time to replace my wheel bearings. The local shop quoted me at $1080 (parts and labor) to fix. I am moderately mechanical inclined and see the complete assemblies avaliable. Anyone in here have experience in DIY repairs?

A clunk isn’t usually the first signs of a bearing failure. It’s usually a roaring sound. Are you sure it’s a bearing?

Anyways. It’s not too bad of a job.
Since you are a 6 lug and 2WD it shouldn’t be too hard. I’ve done the 4WD. And it’s about the same.

    6 lug nuts
    2 caliper bolts
2 brake line mounting bolts (lines can stay together)
    Remove brake disc
    Remove speed sensor (1 bolt)
    4 Hub bolts

You could probably have it done in less than 2 hours on the first one. And 1 hour on the second.

Agree with TnShooter. A "clunk" on a "deep turn" is more indicative of something going on suspension-wise (or CV if it's constant as the wheel turns). A bearing starting to go will be a roaring/humming at all times or in sweeping turns.

My clunk on a deep turn was loose lower control arm bolts. Cranked them down and cluck went away.

I bought hubs/bearing from him when I did mine. Good price and fast shipping/turn around. Would recommend

Its also starting to vibrate and hum mostly during acceleration. The suspension may need repair as well.

Were you at or near full-lock when you heard the clunk? I had a similar issue that only occurred at or near full lock. The cause of the issue hadn't been previously identified on TW AFAIK, so I wrote a little about it here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mystery-clunk-when-turning-solved.736095/

Might be worth taking a look, as it might be a $0 to fix "problem".

ain't too bad at all, definitely worth the couple hours to save that much $$$ in labor. biggest thing was just pressing the new bearing in, just take her slow and you dont need a press.

A clunk sound on a hard turn is not indicative of a warn or bad front wheel bearing. I would pursue the cause of the “clunk” further before replacing the wheel bearings.
Also if $1080 is for both front bearing replacement that’s not a bad price.

    A 21mm socket
    A 17mm socket
A 17mm boxed end wrench (ratcheting makes it go faster)
    A 10mm socket
And possibly a 12 mm socket is about all you need.

A Torque Wrench will be handy (but you’ll need a crows foot or adapter) if you want to torque it to spec.
I just guessed on my first, and then bought an adapter on my second one.

This is an example of the adapter. (You need a 17mm)
You need it or something similar if you want to torque it properly.
Or do like most people and use loctite and crank it down.

I'm also going to change out my CV Axles while I'm down there. Currently searching for the CORRECT axle pair (2wd Prerunner)

Be sure your blinker fluid is topped up before you replace your CV axles.

If you happen to find a set of CV axles for a 2-wheel drive truck, make sure you fill all of us in on the part numbers. o_O

    This is such bad information.

Blinker fluid can be topped off any time, no connection to the CV status.

This is a challenge. All I'm seeing is for 4wd or 4cyl 2wd. Nothing for 2wd Prerunners

Sorry dude, you don't have CV axles in a pre-runner. I assume you're joking?
