I have a lure 13.5 I used with my f150 and bed extender tbar.. I just got my taco last week so haven't had the opportunity to take it out to the lake yet but, I assume it will be the same exact setup.

I'm currently running an over box boat rack on my old truck while I await my 2017. I would have ordered a Trac rac for the new Taco but I also ordered a folding toneau cover. Watching cars pull up behind me and pull right underneath my sea kayaks makes me think I'll go with mounting on the roof this time for no overhang. Unfortunately the factory roof rack isn't rated high enough and the after market ones don't stick out far enough so I think I'm going to build my own bases and use them with my Thule stuff.

Edit, here it is finished up.

I've put d rings on the front of the bed of my truck. I just put the 12 foot kayak on the bed and tie it down with the tailgate down. It helps that I have a long bed. I bought a bed extender but it turns out I don't need it.

    Nice bass there.

How long is your kayak? Did you order a long bed?

Yeah I am also thinking about getting a roof rack at some point. My long bed is enough for my 8ft kayak for now.

Care to show us some pictures on how you secure the kayak with the tail gate down?

Yes mine is a long bed I made sure to get that. My kayak is 13' 5", 36" wide and weighs about 105lbs. That tbar bed extender is great for throwing it in the bed.

I'd have to hunt for pics but we do the the same setup in my buddy's first gen. We have 12' boats, he has short bed double cab, and we just let em cantilever out the back with the tailgate down. Get some good rope or straps (highly recommend NRS straps for ease of use and bombproof buy it once-ness). Use carabiners on the handles of the kayak to prevent abrasion to the handles or straps and for ease of use (just clip em in, no need to thread). Use a strap on the D rings near the cab, and another holding them in on the part hanging out. Be sure to tie a red flag since those boats will be he hanging out about 5'!

We've never had a problem, used a T-bar or damaged the boats. Just be sure to add any gear to the bed supported end and not weight the cantilever part.

It's my first time seeing a propel kayak. Do you like it? How fast can it go?

Love it. Fast? Just judging by the bank passing by I'd say a good fast walking pace... That's just going through the motion of pedaling and not killing yourself. Not really sure speed wise but it's really nice to have hands free fishing and reverse if needed all the time. Lot's of clips on Youtube.

For a 10 footer it's very stable and you don't have to worry about tracking as you just pedal and steer with the rudder control.

Same basic shit everybody else had 5 years ago.
Native Slayer 13 Propel and Ultimate 13

The slayer is the newest and is making me realize a trailer is in order

Sold the 2003 and have a 2017 and in order to get the Yakima Outdoorsman racks on I will have to do some cutting in the bed.

Huge kayak thread in the Sports forum. Check it out!

    Mine is #976

Yaks are old, narrow, fast. Good for fishing I do. Not as comfy as some, but when I'm 1-2 miles offshore and a storm pops up, I prefer to move along.

For flat water smaller lake type lake fishing, I'd probably pick something else.

Lift kit, weight distribution hitch. Camper shell. Kayak Rack.
I had Perception Sport 12.5 Caster Angler.
I have Hobie Pro Angler 14 with mirage drive.

I have a huge part of my youtube channel dedicated to kayaking but "setup" related videos worth mention is my DIY deer hoist loading system. At the time when I recorded video that is how I used to load up my kayak when towing my travel trailer. For all other times I have one of those harbor freight lumber hitch bracket things so I would load kayak into bed of truck and rest of it sat atop the bracket.

Post making that video I made a side hitch in middle of my 08 tacoma so I could connect same very deer hoist halfway down side of my truck giving me ability to tow my travel trailer and still have my kayak with me. Camping world and rv camping stores sell 4 inch bar mounts which I attached directly to frame around rear door.

I unfortunately crashed my truck (not my fault). Truck was repaired and I traded it in. I bought a 16 tacoma long bed. Given that I am still going through post accident rehab I can't record how I am going to do it but after my camper shell gets installed in next couple of weeks I am going to see a local fabricator to attach harbor freight over the cab rack and instead of attaching it to bed of truck, it will be attached in another way. Bottom line is I am going to have a heavy duty rack on top of my roof because my hobie weighs 150 lbs and actually bent my roof on 2nd gen. Yakima thing held up but pressure of going over ups and downs and over bumps and stuff eventually dented roof where it clamped onto door jam. My new roof rack will get its own very video recording in next month or so. I intend to outline and record everything I do/did to facilitate that setup. If you bookmark my youtube page you will see what I am going to do.
