I looked through the forums here and I know this has been talked about a ton but I don't see any major concensus. I know the truck calls for 75w-90 GL-5 but I'm wondering if it needs to be that weight and if Redline is preferred here. I use Mobil 1 in the engine and Redline in the tyranny and transfer case and my truck loves it. I want to use the good stuff so this baby lasts a long time. I have a TRD Sport

oh goody.....:angrygirl: another "which is good stuff oil thread"

I used Valvoline oil that meets the specifications in the Owner's Manual. My '06 requires the dose of LSD. I used this same oil in both diffs and Xfer case.

If you consider the amount of science that goes into the manufacturing, production, testing and performance analysis of auto components and oil alike, you’ll realize that very few people on the forum will actually be able to usefully answer questions about which oil is empirically “better”. You’re going to get a lot of “I use this and it works great for me”! What does that even mean? One guy used an oil and hasn’t had a catastrophic failure. Sample size = 1.

Unless you have some very scientific, technical reason to do otherwise, why not just use an oil that meets the specification in the manual and call it good? You will not find a consensus here.

07 sport is likely going to have a mechanical clutch pack LSD so you need an oil with LSD additive. The best oil is one that meets the specs listed in the manual and is changed on the regular.

    ^THIS^

Oil is oil. This one meets all the specs and the only reason I recommend it is because of the bags. Makes the replacement process almost easy as compared to the hard plastic bottles.

Lots of guys have used Mobil 1 75-90 successfully. I have as well. It's full synthetic and it should be changed frequently enough, so pour in whatever fits the specs and drive it like you stole it.

I like to use 5w-30 in the diff. It’s lightweight and been running like a champ for 50K!

Whatever synthetic is on sale. Mobil1 has gotten expensive.

I agree with this. Maybe I should rephrase the question to which seems to make the truck run the smoothest. I don't offroad heavily, just a drive out on the beach sometimes.

I use just about anything in my rear diff, that meets the spec. I use Lucas in my manual trans and transfer case.

And he did ask "favorite". This ^^^ is my favorite.

Nobody here is really capable of telling the difference in real-world performance between any oils that meet the spec. Just throw clean shit in every once in a while

I don’t think it’s possible to notice the difference in how smoothly the diffs are running, just based on differences in brand of oil, all else being equal. With all the other inputs…speed, acceleration, tire wear, ground/road surface, engine noise etc.

I recently replaced the oil in both diffs and the transfer case and didn’t notice anything in the feel of the truck. It’s just preventive maintenance.
