Cost and procedures to have them done.
Most implants are a surgical procedure, some put in a semi full tooth embedded in the gums, cut holes and insert new tooth. Some are held in with magnets that are placed in the gums, and others rest on posts that are insert into the upper and lower jaw.
Each one has a different price.
Plastic dentures / also called plates are the easiest and cheapest form. The process of fitting is long, arduous and extremely painful at times.

I could barely pay the $1100 for my set of dentures

Implants are thousands per tooth... soooo

    How are you feeling.
Tired of eggs, milkshakes and mashed potatoes, oatmeal yet?

Speaking of the dentures though, they don't fit my mouth at all and theres nothing they can do. It's easier to gum at things (even though they're still really tender) than use the teeth, and the teeth are so big I can't close my mouth. So I haven't worn them in a few days. Not worth it. Dentist's office said there's nothing they can do to make them fit, I'm trying to get ahold of the office manager to see what they can do for me.
I didn't know previously that I didn't have to have a healing set, much less that the healing sets are often complete shite. So I don't know what to do at this point. Not appear in a photo until next year when I get my new ones?

Dude, I have gastroparesis, that's all I've been eating for 2 1/2 years. I'm very, very tired of it. I've been saying fuck it and eating dairly lately though even though it makes me dumb nauseous. Just not much else I can do.

Where are they not fitting proper? Along the cheek and gum line?

Teeth are too big and they didn't account for my overbite. The gums in the front also protrude a lot, but they've taken off all they can.

It's more like they have done all they want to for the amount of money they recieved.
    Sorry it hasn't worked out.
I haven't had mine in for a very long time. Once I realized they were part of the reason for the persistent sinus infections.

I never thought of sinus infections... makes sense with that top plate being there.

My experience with dentures is that it feels awesome when they take them out.

Have to stay positive these days, always going through a lot medically. Trust me, giant pessimist when it comes to everrrrrrrrrything else, haha. Anyways, thank you. I really hope they can accommodate me somehow. They've been angels through all of this; amazing office. They didn't sound like they'd fix this issue though, but I'll try to get ahold of the manager again tomorrow and see.

Agreed for sure. I haven't put mine in for a few days, so the sores I had from before got all hard and started to push out... like a giant mouth callus o_O not to mention I speak better without, minus having a bit of a lisp, but my mom doesn't wear her dentures, and her lisp went away after a while. I would like the dentures for meeting people, events, etc though. I have a business connection I need to meet for an art collaboration in a few days and I don't really want to show up without teeth but it is what it is I guess.

Of course not; that's the best marketing strategy for anything astronomical in price. Generate leads first.

They're easy to sell to anyone with dentures that can suddenly afford them, I will say that. Dentures are no replacement for teeth, that's for sure.

Sia there in your signature is lucky she's a star, she's got the same genetic condition that made my enamel soft ;)

I always look at it like this.....
Yes, it's a tad embarrassing, but it's no different than someone that's lost a leg, arm or any other kinda nonessential part of the body. Doesn't matter the reason why those parts are gone, war, medical conditions, car accidents, etc.... they just are. It shouldn't affect relationships, well only those that are shallow enough not to accept and understand that one part body equals who your are.

I wouldn't say it's necessarily embarrassing, but for people you haven't met, it's hard to feel professional without teeth, I guess probably since this is so new to me. I have a really, toothy, gummy smile, I'll post an example below, so it's difficult to know that until I get this sorted out if anyone wants a photo or whatever I've gotta like keep my mouth shut. For this collab I would love to take a photo with the artist I'm working with for instance. The way your face ambiently looks without teeth, at least when things are new, is already kind of hard. My mom doesn't smile or sing in front of people, she still cries when people point it out, and its been 8 years now I think. And she actually did meth, haha.

Anyways, I guess it's just because it's so noticeable. I'm young, so I feel like it's really obvious.

A lighthearted story about that though, I made my friend and her kids some food a couple nights ago and brought it over just to shoot the shit since I haven't seen them since... February? Big daddy Covid really did a number on the social life, haha. Anyways, shes got 2 kids, and the older one, about 5 I believe, when I stepped inside into the light she exclaims "woah, you have pink teeth!" so I said "oh no, they aren't teeth, I don't have teeth anymore, they're my gums, see the holes?" Then she got all sorts of grossed out, haha. I pulled the brush your teeth thing, whatever. But they still thought I just had pink teeth and thought it was like THE coolest shit ever. Their aunt comes home and they're like "Aunt Jessi, she has pink teeth! Also, her name is Cayleigh."

I know it's noticeable by everyone around me, and that's okay, but I want to be able to smile big and not like... freak out little children, lol.

yeah, that's bertie, only car I've ever owned. Mom shot a photo because she was pissed I wouldn't let her drive me. To be fair, she wrecked 2 of the 3 cars my dad has ever owned, and they were only together for 5 years so... She wasn't touching the rolla, lol.

Hiya - Just found this thread... How are you doing now?

I have a very long story about dentures, but to be brief... My wife has had full-on dentures since I met her 23 years ago, and since I had my last tooth pulled about a year ago, I learned how to make dentures to save $1000s. You can learn anything on Youtube, and I bought an instructional DVD also. Legit materials (the right acrylics, etc.) are available in small quantities only from very few sources, but the process is really not all that tough - if you've done molding and casting (arts & crafts!), that's what it is. Every denture set is a one-off anyway, and it's way easier to fit your own just right, than to pay somebody else to try and get it right. With a dremel tool and about $300 in special tools and materials, we can make all the dentures we want. So far I have made 3 sets for her and 1 plus an earlier partial for myself. I'm due for a new set now - after shrinkin' gums for almost a year they are getting pretty loose and I have taken to not wearing them much. And I wear them even less with "masking up" because nobody can see anyway!

Here's a set under construction - not polished yet:

    dentures_1.jpg

Things I Like About Having Dentures:
    - NO MORE TOOTHACHES!
    - No more temp sensitivity! now I need to be more careful to not burn my tongue
    - No more nighttime teeth grinding - that's what got me toothless, I think
    - Having no teeth can enhance some recreational activities

    Things I Don't Like
    - THESE THINGS SUCK! I have never met anybody who "likes" their dentures
