Sadly nothing, if they want it bad enough, their tiny minds will overcome many obstacles to get what they want. Only regulation and TRUE enforcement of the scrap yard and punishment will deter the scumbags. The best I can offer is to etch very specific things on the cats like vin, make, model, color, etc and possibly if the scrap yard cares about their license then the thief might think twice. tedious but might be enough.

plasma cutter will still get through pretty quick. But I think folks that are looking to nab your cats are looking for a quick getaway. Probably rolling around with a battery powered sawzall. If I was trying to steal them and saw this contraption, I'd move along to the next vehicle lol

I've heard the cage is a good solution. Catalytic convertor theft is super frequent around here (central Iowa)

There's an old adeage that seems to apply here. "You don't have to outrun the bear, you just have to outrun the other guy running from the bear."

All deterrents can be defeated, but I would think a little resistance would send someone to the next car nearby. I do agree that if a Sawzall is the removal tool, hex bolts probably aren't a deterrent.

A recip saw with metal cutting blade will cut hack through without much trouble.

I can say from 1st hand knowledge that angle iron and steel tubing is difficult to cut quickly.

Need to make the next car an easier target.
