I'm thinking my belt may be slipping so I want to swap out the serpentine belt on my Tacoma. Which belt is the best and why? I've heard some say that the Gatorback can glaze over early but I have also heard good things. I've heard good things about the Gates blue belts. I'm wondering who has used what specifically on the 4.0L supercharged trucks and what their experience was... good or bad. Also, if someone could provide part numbers for either one that would also be helpful.

    Thanks!

Looks like Gates doesn't make their blue racing belt for our trucks. So the question is Gates v Gatorback.

I can only speak for my experience with my '03 Cobra, I had no issues with Gates, but the Gatorback seemed to leave a lot of belt dust all over everything. I'd go Gates.

I have heard stories of the Gatorback failing early, glazing over or leaving tons of dust. I honestly haven't heard any of this from those that have used the Gates but it seems as though the common complaint may be worse... squeal. Some say that within a few thousand miles they have squealing issues (still no slip or other issues though) and some say they never had an ounce of squeal.

I'm curious to hear about the Gates belt. I've gone through about 5 oem belts on the S/C all due to cracking.

Yeah, I'm done with OEM for this application. I haven't heard anyone with a s/c rave about them and this may be one of the few replacement parts under the hood that I actually prefer aftermarket. Just need to figure out which is the best.

I never had an issue with squeal with my Gates, but my car was a garage queen anyhow. When I put the gates belt on due to needing a longer belt when I added a 4lb lower pulley to my car I sold it less than 5k miles later so I can't speak for longevity.

After eating 4 of the OEM belt, I tried the Gates standard belt, same results. I went to the Gatorback and it's been on for 3 years with zero cracking. Gatorback FTW!
