I have a automatic 2000 Toyota Tacoma 2.4L and I’m changing out my IAC valve and was wondering what the correct procedure is after I’ve installed the new IAC.

    SOLVED BELOW
High idle in park and neutral after changing IAC valve

There's no relearn sequence. It should adjust immediately to a target RPM dictated by the ECU. What's happening?

If your just replacing the valve you don't need to do anything, if you want to reset the PCM unhook the battery for a few min then reconnect it and allow it to idle until it reaches operating temp.
Note that Toyota's won't begin learning idle until coolant temp reaches aprox 174F.

After cleaning my throttle body and IAC truck has a hard start only when cold and stumbles or hesitates while pulling out of the driveway then I warms up and is fine. I think the IAC resistances are not acting according to the outside temperature, instead it’s acting like the vehicle is hot which is why I get my problems on cold start. So I’ve opted for the replacement from rockauto and they have a video that explain relearning the IAC but that’s the only place I’ve heard of this procedure so I figured I better ask.

Your coolant temp sensor would be the only influential thing in idle vs. throttle with temperature. Did you also install a new TPS? Can be similar symptoms

Exactly what I thought when I changed my ECT and TPS, actually was praying it’d fix this problem. I have another post that’s gone dead, but I’ve replaced a whole list of parts by now which lead me to cleaning my throttle body and IAC which made my problem slowly get more prominent which means the cleaning might’ve made things worse and only thing that really could be affected would be the IAC… so ECT tells ECM to tell the coils in the IAC to open to certain amount on cold start. Considering I changed the ECT and that didn’t fix it I figure I better just change the IAC before I go messing with the ECM because that’s basically all that’s left for me after this. Lol

Changed IAC all seems good so far except idle staying around 1000 rpm while in park or neutral at operating temp but drops to around 780 when in drive gonna see if it corrects over the next few days driving.

    That sounds fairly normal

For high idle on 4bangers, I'd always go look for vac leaks first...
and unfortunately there are many places that can leak other than just the lines.

No doubt! I changed out all my vacuum lines already before arriving at changing the IAC. What I ended up doing was taking a half turn off the throttle cable assembly stop screw and I think it allowed my throttle plate to shut just a tiny bit more because now it seems good. Someone may have adjusted it previously to try and fix a low idle.

    Found my fix
Ended up taking a half turn off the stop screw for the throttle cable assembly which I assume allowed my throttle plate to seat just a little more closed because it fixed the high idle in park and neutral.

It my understanding that you dont need to adjust the factory setting (there is a yellow line). Replaced my entire throttle body with an OEM one while back. I then had a high idle when cold, irregular idle when warm. Finally did a 300 mile road trip... and then my idle reset and it now purrs. Short trips around town werent enough for it to reset.
