ive had my truck since Jan and I want to change my own oil instead of wasting Money for labor at a shop. It's been around 70-80 lately with the lowest 67 should I switch my oil to 5w-30 or stay with the 10w-30. Thank God for this site you guys have helped me a lot with this truck. I appreciate the help!!

As for oil weight...I would strongly suggest to go with what your manual (for your particular year, engine, etc.) says to use and stick with that.

Since I've purchased my 2008 Tacoma back in April of 2008, brand new driven off the lot, I perform all maintenance on it and have always used Mobil 1 fully synthetic motor oil when changing the oil (Also use Mobil 1 oil filter as well). Never have had problems with engine performance. Tacoma still runs excellent to this very day! Mileage?......currently just passed 200,000 miles and going strong!

IMO Mobile 1, 10w30, full synthetic, high mileage, and it doesn't break the bank from Wallymart.

Toyota usually puts it right on the oil filler cap on the engine. If i recall correctly, it's 10w30 above zero, 5w30 below zero.

Does Toyota send you a new oil cap when temp drops below zero in your area, or just email you to swap the cap?

5w30 like the manual says. I use Castrol full synthetic oil, but any name brand would be fine. OEM oil filter at Walmart. Because it's an older vehicle, I change the oil more frequently than required, every 6 months or 5K miles.

I use 5W-30. I buy 6 Quarts of Oil, OEM Oil Filter(YZZD3) & Crush Washer from the local dealership. I put in 5.5 Quarts and change my oil every 2500 - 3000 miles. I have just over 231k miles on the truck.
