Well, based off my knowledge, I'd definitely say leaf springs. Not blocks.

Don't put a block on your truck if you care about the ride and/or if you offroad at all. If you want super sick flat billed monster shirt lift, then get some 12" blocks and party. If you want to not have back problems in the near future and not have to worry about your shit breaking, go with an AAL or full leaf pack :D. The end.

Both change the ride but leafs will be smoother and block you can get axle wrap and it's just a cheap ass way of lifting the truck. Put a load in he back or trailer on it and a block puts more stress on the leafs and rides way worse than without a block.

Suspension is always 'better' than chunks of metal which don't give any flexibility.

Keep in mind a block lift is only as good as the springs that sit on top of it. If the springs sag (as all Tacoma factory springs will) you'll lose height over time anyhow. Eventually they'll bottom out and you'll have flat springs on top of blocks that don't move. So you won't really have suspension left.

Upgraded springs is the way to go. :)

Be mindful of the fact there are no "absolutes" with any of this. Broad strokes answers don't address the problems and issues with individual brands or designs. A poorly designed leaf pack may not always be "better" than a 1" block on a decent set of stock leafs. That said, MOST of the more popular leaf packs ARE of fairly good quality, stock leaf springs are mediocre unless "doctored" a bit, and with light duty leaf's, blocks tend to wrap more than they would with a stiff, higher quality leaf. The catch 22 with that is, with a high quality leaf, you won't NEED blocks most likely, since most of the better leaf packs provide lift on their own. I always caution against "always always always" sort of answers, favoring to answer to SPECIFIC parts rather than broad generalizations.
