    Figuring it out…
If you don’t need to use Chrome there are a few other browsers that use the same Chrome base but do a better job of not tracking you. Check out the Duck browser.

uBlock Origin is my favorite browser side one. Pi-Hole is great for a home network all encompassing type setup though

    Ad Block Plus

    Ghostery

I've personally switched to the Brave browser and it does a great job blocking ads and those incredibly annoying "We've Changed Our Cookie Policy" popups.

I still have the other browsers installed in case a page renders wierd.

Several times I've been on a site that I frequent and thought "Why am I getting these ads?" and then realized I wasn't in Brave.

The other browsers have ad blockers too, but Brave seems to work better, for me anyway.

    YMMV.

My gripe with AdBlock Plus is they sold out and started allowing some ads that paid them through.

    First, ditch Chrome.
Second, use Brave (which is based on Chrome)
Third, since Brave already does what you're looking for natively, look to install some security minded plugins like uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger.
