Here's the situation. I bought a backup camera for my truck, I've ran the wires and tested the camera so I know it works. I'm not 100% sure what source I want to use to power the camera.

Currently I have some LED lights in the bed of my truck. They are powered by a wire I ran from the fuze box along the chasis to the lights in the bed. I turn the lights on via a toggle switch in the bed. The way I have it wired allows me to turn the lights off/on even with the truck turned off.

    Here's my two options:

Option 1 - I can tap into the wire going into the reverse lights, which I'd the standard option. I'm a little hesitant to do this because I don't want to jack it up and lose my reverse light.

Option 2 - I can tap into the same wire I ran to the bed for my LED lights. This seems like the easier option, but my concern with this option is the camera will always be powered on and I'm not sure if it'll slowly drain my battery...

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you TW

    Update:

Decided to grow a pair and watch a few videos on hope to tap into wires. I was surprised how easy it was, my fear of wires was greatly reduced today :)

Tapping into the reverse lights is the best way to go. Automatic operation of the backup camera is important.
