I use Aisin straight anti-freeze and mix it 50% with water. I could also use Genuine Toyota Parts antifreeze but that's a bit more expensive. Besides, mixing my own makes me feel like I'm still a bit useful... :D

It would depend just what is in there now.

Unless your doing a complete flush

Had a Female Friend add Green to the Toyota Red When Her Boy Friend checked it looked like pure rust He was quite worried till we figured out what happened.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Toyota OEM red anti freeze will NOT mix well with other anti-freeze. No matter what the guy at Napa tells you.

I would not suggest putting any other antifreeze in your system unless you plan on fully flushing the OEM antifreeze out first. (you have to flush it, then flush it again, and flush some more... you can't just drain it.)

Also... I would not mix concentrate antifreeze at a 60% antifreeze to 40% water mix. Unless you live in an extremely cold climate during winter. Especially if you are taking your rig off road in the heat. I go a minimum of 50% water, during the summer I even go closer to 60% water. (But I drain and replace the coolant in my radiator every oil change and flush once a year) I use distilled water because it doesn't have calcium/minerals/etc.

Water cools your vehicle better than antifreeze... but with that said, even in hot weather, it's best to use at least 40% antifreeze due to corrosion and cavitation issues.

And for the record... I flushed the Toyota red a long time ago and have been running Prestone.

I had Toyota do a flush a few years ago and they added green coolant back in. I installed a new radiator today in mine and added Prestone back in it.

Edit: Lol that reads badly. The green coolant didn't mess up my radiator, it had 200k miles on it and my truck was showing some temp increases. I think it ran its course. I'm back to a steady 190 on the scan gauge.

I had to replace my radiator a few months ago as well. It wasn't from the Prestone, it was just from age... the radiator had over 260,000 miles on it when it popped. Which is actually a lot more miles than I usually see people talking when their radiator goes... normally that seems to happen between 180,000 and 230,000.

When I replaced the radiator, I also did the water pump, thermostat, timing belt etc. The waterpump was still not even leaking at 260,000... I saw no indication of any problem being caused by the Prestone.

I use Pentafrost. They have a red and a pink Toyota equivalent depending on what year Toyota you have. As stated yours is red......newer models are pink. I use their blue Nissan equivalent also.....good stuff.

Use whatever color is in there to keep it simple, but any color WILL work and WILL NOT damage anything.

As long as you keep it the SAME color. Toyota Red + any Green, over time, WILL gum up the system. I've seen it first hand.

And Dexcool + Toyota red = you're fucked.

Seen it first hand, when you mix red and green it eventually turns into gummy orange crap in the coolant passages inside the engine and heater core, you can't tell by looking into the radiator, but once you start tearing into stuff it ain't pretty.

Does sound a bit extreme haha, but it is certainly one way to not have coolant issues.

Personally all I do is just change out my coolant reservoir every oil change or so since flushing is a pain. Do the same for powersteering and brake fluid (occasionally) - but more so just to get rid of the extra bottles of ATF/Dot I have left over haha. I'm waiting for the drain holes to finish drizzling anyways.

Lol... I'll just keep "wasting money"

Meanwhile... I got over 260,000 miles out of my water pump and radiator, while on average I see others lose theirs at around 175-180,000 miles.

Around 5000 miles sometimes a bit longer if I'm being lazy. I use High milage Mobil 1 syn and Lucas oil stabilizer.

So an extra $12-$15 every 5000 miles isn't that big of a deal. And again, I'm not saying I flush the antifreeze every oil change. I just dump the radiator and refill... takes longer to bring it up to operating temp on refill than anything. But while I'm running it up to operating temp is when I'm doing the rest of my visual inspection and looking under the truck to make sure I didn't leave out the plug or something stupid.
