Well my first post here I have always wanted a new Tacoma and the wife finally agreed next year I can get one as long as I stay off the chewing tobacco( I just quit after 15 years)... that’s good incentive! So I really like the TRD off-road but I don’t need all the fancy multi terrain or locking rear diff. Would I be making a big mistake if I just bought a base SR V6 with an SX package and put aftermarket wheels and tires on it? It will be my daily driver and it will go off-road often on logging roads during deer and turkey season. I just think I can make a good looking functional truck without anything I don’t need for way cheaper. Any opinions will be appreciated!

I think you would be fine with either. I went with the OR though :)

Why not just get an SR5? It's cheaper than an OR and can handle what you need. You can use the cash saved for wheels/tires and other accessories.

My thinking was simple, 1. Test drove both the sport and the off road, didn’t like the fake scoop and harsh ride of the sport. 2. Decided that it’s better to have the features of the off road and not need them than to need them and not have them. I suggest that you test drive several times before you make your final decision.

By the time you buy the SX package then wheels and tires you will be knocking on the door of the Off Road, and the SR5 only has about an $1800 less MSRP so the Off Road is probably the best bargin.

Compare the specs of each trim level and see which meets your own personal criteria for a vehicle. For me, all I really wanted was cruise control, tow package, heated mirrors and a backup camera. All of that comes on the SR. Just about every other upgraded feature on the SR5 and OR is stuff I’d be changing anyway or able to easily add, except for the power rear slider, so I’m happy with my SR.

Thank you all I’m super excited I also just found the Trail edition and I love it! I’m kinda happy I’m waiting until next year so I can make the right decision I just want the most bang for my buck.

Welcome to TW, and congrats on being tobacco free!

There are various factors to consider. In addition to the locking diff and MTS in the OR, both TRD models have various other comforts and additions that might interest you. Better seats, with heating elements, climate control, push button start, electric rear window just to name a few.

And the resale would be higher if you purchase a TRD model. If your budget allows it, I think the upgrade to a TRD model is well worth the additional costs.

I am probably not going to lift this truck as it’s plenty capable of everything I need in stock ground clearance. I also like the trophy truck low and wide look more than a lifted truck.

    welcome aboard

My first chew was "Days work" I must have been about ohhhh 5 or 6 at the time. I was riding in my grampa's pickup. It was laying there in the bench seat. I asked gramps if I could have a bite of his candybar. He said "Go ahead!"

I went with the SR5. Like you i didn't need all the fancy features. I also wanted a standard key not the fob key that the TRD packages offer. I saved a lot of money that i was able to put into mods. My truck is now more capable than any TRD that rolls off the lot so i'm happy.

The SR5 also has a lot of features. I'd look into it for sure.

Welcome to TW!! Isn't it great to have choices???!!! No advice other than to go with the one you like best after test-driving.

Manual or auto transmission is also another decision I will have to make. You are all very helpful!

I'd rather have the bed space than the built in cubby.

Basic difference between the three. Pick what's important to you:

    SR - no chrome bumper
SR5 - 10 way adjustable seat, power sliding rear glass, fog lights
Off Road - Heated outside mirrors (not sure of your location), 10 way adjustable seat, power sliding rear glass, Crawl control, locking rear diff, MTS, fog lights

For the MSRP difference, I'd probably go with the SR5. Says the guy who ended up with a Pro...

hahaha I would love a pro but the wife isn’t going to let that happen! It will depend on what kind of deal I can get but the SR5 seems to have everything I want and nothing I don’t. We shall see I’m gonna start test driving when the 21s get here.

My advise would be to not take advise from TW :anonymous:

Be sure to check all of the available options that come with each trim level. Things like Advanced Tech and Premium packages bring new variables to the table.

My wife brokered the deal between two dealerships fighting for our business without me knowing.

Good luck and enjoy the hell out of whichever flavor you decide on, @BillyLadderMan!
