This morning I noticed some glass in my rear tire where the tread is. I pulled it out and it was about 1/2" deep and maybe 1/2" wide.

    No air leakage.

Do I need to get it replaced or patched? I have Michellin MS2s with about 35k on them.

pic would help but usually if not deeper that the tread, I would not worry about it since I have siped tires in the past with no issues

Drive it but stop at a tire repair shop and get their opinion. Without pics and seeing the relation of the hole to the tire carcass- really hard to give GOOD advice.

Spray it with soapy water to check the leak. You could use pliers to wiggle it while the soapy water is there. Ideally, if it's still not bubbling, then you're safe to pull it out. If it didn't puncture all the way through, the main part of tire that provides structural integrity is still intact.

If it is bubbling and you pull it out, then you gata rush to a tire shop with your portable air pump in your backseat just in case, or put the spare on lol.

I tried looking for the spec on michellins website to see how deep the belts were but couldn't find the info. Below is a picture of the slash:

that's nothing, but if you are worried, smear some dish soap/water on that and look for bubbles

Thanks guys. I have been looking for bubbles in the dishsoap all day and haven't seen any. Still no air loss after 60 mins of driving.

It's surprising to me that the tire could take that without some damage.

Given that it's not leaking, nothing to worry about. If you do have a slow leak, you'll know the next morning, by walking out to a flat tire. Pretty fortunate for you that it's not leaking, because punctures that close to the sidewall aren't repairable.

Aw man that ain't nothin'! If you're worried about that you should see some of the scrapes cuts and gouges in my BFG M/T's from spinning on rocks.

Nah, that's no where near the belts or tire carcass you're good. It is however too close to the side wall to patch. If you tired you could run the risk of having the side wall split.

As other have said check for bubbles with soapy water if you're really worried but Mich's are pretty stout.

    Just keep on truckin'!

My concern wasn't the width of the slash. More with the depth of it. Still no flat this morning.

That's nothing. Back when I had my Frontier, a 2 inch stick went straight into the tire. When I saw it, I pulled it out, but could hear air leaking. I just stuck the stick back in and kept driving for another year, always intermittently checking to make sure the stick was still there and that the air pressure was fine.
