I need it done. My eyes..you know. My eye doc. Admonished me to always wear sunglasses.

I’m going to do 70% on the windshield. My wife did her Tesla with Xpel ceramic , and I will do the same.
Thoughts? I’d like to match the OEM rear glass, or if anything stay just a touch lighter.

20% Xpel Ceramic. Told the installer to match the rears.

    20%.
15% will make it slightly darker which is what the tint place put on mine in ceramic tint. Then I went back and had 35% ceramic done over all the rear glass.

    @aficianado

FYI, the rear windows aren't tinted. They are dyed. Which is why it's called privacy glass. So your local tint installer can be best to match your front windows to rear windows with their 20% tint.

Anything to add to the rears to bolster UV protection?

I always wore sunglasses and still do but Had Cataract surgery in both eyes this year at 69 years old. Should have done it at 68 but didn't know how bad my eyes were getting.

The privacy glass in rear windows have UV protection already..

Look up for "Toyota Privacy Glass" at Google so you can learn how it works.

They do have some UV protection but they don't block the the UV and heat radiation as good as ceramic tint and other premium tints do. That is why I had them add 35% over the rear privacy glass. The ultimate would be to also have the windshield done in a ceramic film that's almost clear to block that but I believe it's not cheap because of the curve of the glass to install and some state laws may not pass it. A sun strip across the top is an option too. So is using a sun shade when parked to keep the inside cooler and reduce fading.
I still wear sunglasses mostly to drive too. I have a pair of glasses with transitions lenses to but with all the tint they tend to not get activated so well inside the truck.

35% will match the rears with no tint
I’ve been installing window film for 20ish years. I won’t even go 1 day without film on my truck in AZ.
This is 10% on the front and 20% on the rear and back using Madico ceramic black pearl on silver truck. If visibility at night is an issue stick with 35%. I really like 5%. Just don’t care for it at night.
20% front 35% rear and back on black truck.

    Thanks for that.

When you say “35% will match the rears with no tint” do you mean that by adding 35% tint to the front side windows, they’ll more-or-less match the OE tint of the rear side windows? That’s my goal.

    TIA!

Much appreciated. Used to live in Scottsdale. Hot was expected, but not like it is there now. Really feeling for you and our other friends there. Try and stay frosty!

I know. I didn't say it blocks heat...

It helps keeping anything from fading from rear windows. If you want to keep heat down, then use ceramic tint over them and all the way around.

I have a topper so I am not worrying about anything fading in the backseat. If I sold the topper then I will go back to tint place to get back windows tinted with ceramic tint.

    I see the logic there.
I have a tonneau cover so I don't have that extra coverage. I also have seat covers too. The front ones do get some fade over the last 3 years because I park outside and am not regularly using a sun shade when parked. Still I'm trying to keep the truck looking good. I plan to keep it 10 plus years.

I think I had 50 in the windshield before replacement and it was fine to drive at night. My wife has the 60 or 70 and it’s clear. I would actually like 45 or 40 on the windshield now.
