Hey guys, I'm currently trying to fix my audio in my 04 taco and I want to put a screen stereo but I don't know which size can fit. Anybody know the size screen I can put in?

My taco is double cab and I want to put a powered sub behind one of the rear seats. Anybody wouldn't happen to know the measurements behind those seats? Like the spacing behind the seats

1st gens are simple. Any double din is a direct fit. No weird brackets or anything. Get a radio and the harness to make it plug and play.

Do remember that screened audio are more expensive as of right now, also go for one with pre outs for an amp. It will save you if you ever want to upgrade in the future. See if you can get them as 3V or higher.

Also the screened ones look more expensive and are more likely to get stolen

I put in an Atoto A6 Pro Android head unit. It has a 7" screen and fit perfectly. I am sure some would frown on this, but I've been really happy. I also put a Rockville SS8P under seat subwoofer under my drivers seat to give the bass just a little extra kick. I have the extra cab so I only have the jump seats. Allong with the head unit I added a backup camera, TPMS tires monitor, an OBDII reader steering wheel control and dash camera. I use the Android Auto app to connect it with my samsung phone. The newer model from Atoto has Android Auto support directly, I have to use the app 'Head Unit Reloaded' to use AA. If your an iPhone person you connect with Apple Carplay. It's really nice to have the hands free capabilities and Bluetooth connection to my phone to send and receive calls hands free.

I’ve got a kicker 10” powered sub behind the drivers seat. Sounds great and easy to install, it even has its own seatbelt. 595F9B62-5506-4059-9E67-9B7567C1474B.jpg

Nice! I just ordered a JVC single din CD player/ radio to replace my 20 yr old JVC unit, that is now starting to act up. I was toying with the idea of a double din unit but decided against it since my Taco isn't my daily driver. I figured the single din will be a plug and play install, being the old unit is the same brand, keeping my fingers crossed. I will find out next weekend.

You can always get your DD unit from crutchfield and pay an extra $20 for them to soldier & include the connectors, any unit is then “plug and play”

That's why I am staying with the single din unit and hoping that JVC kept all the connectors the same throughout the years. Of course the new head unit has more features than the old, the rest of my system is still pretty "sound", so hopefully the new unit will make it that much better.

I was actually thinking of DOWNGRADING to a single DIN. I have a Kenwood double din and it's impossible to see the screen in the day.

even the double din are the same connectors, the only thing some afford is the screen vs display. I went from single Din to double and I'm pretty sure I re-used the connector.

worst case though you'd be better off getting a new harness because you don't know how the old one looks and some are proprietary to the actual unit and not brand

Oh yeah, I will most definitely check out the harness. You never know if connections are starting to vibrate loose or what it has been through being under the carpet for so many years.

Well I got my stereo in and I must say that I like it, only issue is that when I ordered it, it came with a red screen and not a blue screen like it showed in the pictures but I think I will eventually get used to it. I think the blue ultimately looks better. I thought there would be an option to change the color on this model but there isn't. Oh well... life goes on.
Update: forgot to mention I did have to do some rewiring. The plugs are different ever so slightly so I matched new plug wire for wire and worked like a charm. I just had to learn the new settings on the new unit and seems to be good so far.
