I'm trying to find a TRD OR MT after getting goated on by my local Toyota dealer for the past three months. How I thought I would have a car within a month but every month I called they said just a few more days. I finally gave up and trounced in there and found out that they haven't even allocated me a Truck and nor would the South East Toyota distributor have an allocation in my spec for 120 days + so I got my deposit and ran.

I've found a MT OR in another region but it doesn't have LED headlights, one of three options that are a must for me as I believe they are super expensive aftermarket add ons. Is this a correct assumption? Are LED high and low beam headlights just a bulb they put in a standard housing and profit on them much like all other dealer added options. Or are there actual differences between a standard halogen set and a LED.

If its just four bulbs then I'll go for it but if its an entire assembly then I'll have to look else where.

    Thanks

No, the leds are not something where they drop an led bulb in a standard housing

The LED headlights are a completely different housing. They do not have replaceable bulbs. You are looking at a $450 option if you get it on the truck vs about a $1400 addon afterward - whatever you sell your old housings for.

I got LED, I love them over the halogen headlights.

Welcome! If you want the best headlights you definitely want the OEM LEDs. Aftermarket replacements will not compare in the slightest. You can add OEM LED after-the-fact, but it is way more expensive. Plan about $1500, vs less than $500 built from Toyota. You can improve the OEM halogen lights with performance halogens, aftermarket LEDs actually perform poorly. But OEM LED is by far the best.

Lots of info here, but post #3 has the OEM LEDs, which is by far the best Tacoma headlight on the market:

OEM LED lights are statistically the best. I prefer the Morimoto XB LED Version 2 headlights because they look better and perform almost as well as the OEM LED lights. Only downside to the Morimoto XB LED Headlights is that they cost like $1400 after taxes.
