I’m looking into buying a camper shell for my 06 Tacoma short bed and apparently they are super hard to find and when I do find them they are STUPID expensive more than the 6ft ones .

my question is, is there another alternative that will work, cuz I don’t wanna break the bank getting one especially Since I would have to color match it to the truck which would cost even more

would a camper shell from a Ranger, Colorado or other truck fit or come close cuz apparently the shells hold value like the Tacoma does lmao

Patience works better than an ill fitting shell. There’s a reason a Tacoma shell is a Tacoma shell, and they’re not marketed as universal fit for all brands.

Try a soft top instead, they’ll hold value pretty well until you find a deal and are a couple hundred bucks. Most shortbed shells that pop up are $500-900 in my area (California) and sell fast. Be ready with cash when the time is right.

I was watching my local Facebook marketplace and a few have been popping up. Even one in super white but it didn’t have sliding side windows. But for $600 and being an ARE topper I would have jumped on it. I’m going a different route now and my soft topper will suffice when I need to have a bed topper.

Reviving this S.O.B. from the dead to ask- do you/have any of you used toppers from other trucks? If the measurements are the same, I don’t see why you couldn’t use another topper.

I know “get a taco top” is the correct answer, but should a great deal pop- there are a few currently in my area- would getting an alternate truck’s shell not be worth the money saved? Wondering if anyone has any practical experience attempting to fit one up. What have you fit?
