What oil brand do you use for your 3rd gen??

in previous years when i owned my Subaru wrx sti using mobile 1 was the last thing i wanted to do, now that its highly recommended for my taco i feel confused. I've always used royal purple, any thoughts and or recommendations

 

I use Toyota Genuine 0w20. Cheapest I can get my hands on here in Canada. I buy 2 cases at a time. It's like CAD$5.25/L

Mobil 1.

 

Amsoil signature series 0-20. Read the reports.

 

I will be honest here - whatever Toyota of keen put in at my 5000 & 10,000 miles check.

 

I’ve used Mobil1, Amsoil, Valvoline, Penn, etc. All performed about the same. 7-9k mile intervals. All oil analysis done through Blackstone Labs.

Oil filters used was OEM or Wix (Napa gold). Never could trust Fram.

 

Ive used Toyota brand so far.

 

Pennzoil 0W-20 starting November of 2018.

 

Castrol Titanium or Penzoil Plantinum when I change myself...Toyota whatever when they do it. I also learned that M1 was garbage back in my WRX days. Not very shear stable. Thinned down and amplified the piston slap issue prevalent in Subaru boxers.

 

Amsoil signature here too. Do yourself a favor and do research to find the best one, especially if you plan on using the factory called for oil change intervals (10K miles.)

 

I am on my 4th Tacoma and used Mobil 1 in all of them.

 

Mobil 1 every 4k miles or so

 

Regular oil and filter changes are more import to the life of the engine than what oil you put in.

 

I've seen in a few oil related threads saying that the dealer doesn't change your oil at the 5k service?? I had the lifetime oil changes included in my Taco purchase and they told me I was entitled to 4 oil changes per year if I recall. I got the little reminder sticker on the inside of my windshield and it says I'm due in 6 months from purchase date or at 5k miles, whichever comes first. I'll have to see what they say when I bring it in..

 

Synthetics are 10k mile OCI. No need to do it any sooner, unless it's seen some extreme heavy duty usage.

That's a waste of money and resources (unless you only drive 4k/year)

 

Mobil 1 FTW! 5k Miles or 6 months. But I'm probably around 3k5 at 6 months

 

I must say that pennzoil ultra platinum is great too but impossible to find 0w20 at great price

 

You will be fine with pretty much any 0w-20. With that in mind I use M1 and change out oil & filter every 5k.
