What needs to be replaced when airbags are deployed?

On the 18th I'm flying to go pick up a 2016 tacoma SR with 13k miles that had a very minor front end accident that caused the driver wheel and knee airbags to deploy. I am paying 15,500 for the truck and I'm uneasy now that I know that the two airbags weren't replaced. I'm wondering what I need besides the airbags to complete the installation? I'm hoping this doesn't make this a bad deal for me. Any information would be helpful!

It honestly depends. Is the dash cracked as a result of the air bags? We need pictures to give us an insight at the damage. It's a case by case scenario.

Air bags are easy to replace, however, a bent frame is not. The Truck had to have a decent impact to tigger the sensors... so I'd have the frame checked just for piece of mind. 15k sounds like a decent deal, but ~5k worth of parts and you are into a salvage 20k+. Not sure what a clean SR blue books for, but I bet it's in the mid-high 20's. If you don't care about resale value, I'd say do it! Have you checked the price/availability on the bags?

Based on the look of things, you'll need a new steering wheel, air bags for both "panels", and potentially new harnesses or wiring. Ask the company to send you pictures of the inside of the driver's side. It doesn't seem like it'll cost you a whole lot to repair, judging off of those photos. I'd be more concerned of the exterior damage. Make sure the truck's frame is true and nothing has shifted around in the bay.

The truck actually got repaired already. It's on the road but still has the issue with the airbags.
Looks like the bags are 400 a pop but I don't know what else needs to be replaced with them

How are you going to fly to pick it up? It looks like in needs a trailer until you can sort out what all is bent in the suspension. Wheel was replaced, so it took a decent hit.

So your $15500 purchase price included the exterior being fixed?

Are you talking about the gap between the doors? I don't see anything abnormal between the bed and rear door?

Anyone else notice that they estimated the retail value to be $29K+ and they listed it as a club cab? Shady!

I would pass on that if you haven't already committed to purchase.

I haven't committed yet, but I'm already flying to Texas to pick it up...
If not this one, I need to find another low mile truck that's cheap, and fast. :(

10 grand more would get you a brand new 4x4 with a warranty 25k. Don't buy it, don't feel like you are pressured or have too either. Just fly there and find something positive to do out of it. Take a vacation.
