Been using Mobil1 since forever and just recently picked up Penzoil Platinum for the first time to use.
Heard great things about it and local shop had a good deal on them.

    Anyone else run Penzoil platinum?

what brand have you used and switched from and now stick with?

I realize any brand oil nowadays is really good. More important to do regular changes than what brand you use.

never heard of engine failure or reduced life because of brand. Follow OCI and oil specs as you say. Waiting for Amsoil fanatical responses...

I use Redline because I drive 9/10ths all the time.

I'm pretty sure the guy that had my 1st gen Tacoma ran what ever was on sale at Wal Mart and it was still going strong at 268k when I got rid of it. I bought it with 250k if I recall

    Off Mobil 1.

I use Pennzoil or Quaker State full syn in 5w30 or 10w40.

Switched off Mobil 1 due to excessive cost without added benefit. I view Mobil 1 in the same group as Fram and K&N, great advertising with mediocre product with exaggerated claims driving high price.

:notsure: walmart brand is doing the trick for me. Brought my mazda up to 100k miles, jeep up to 175k, silverado to 75k. My truck is at 35k, wife's camry is at 100k, and haven't had any issues from oil quality at all.

Yeah I’ve been using Mobil1 and they are good and all but always expensive when they are on par with other brands as well.

Costco always carries Mobil1 in bulk packages as well. They have boxes of 6 quarts for around $35

Toyota’s 0w20 synthetic is one of the best oils on the market. I’m sticking with it. Used to be a M1 fanboy but the TGMO syn 0w20 is truly top tier stuff.

Do you have data to support your claims?

There once was a time that people considered Pennzoil to be garbage, it's good to see all those TV ads are working

It’s cool that we have our favorite brands, I know I have mine, but it doesn’t really matter in the end. JMO.

I made no claims as to which is better. The only claim I made was Mobil 1 is more expensive that is the cause of my switching off Mobil 1.

I follow the OCI interval and the API and Viscosity specs from the manual.

What claim do you want data???

FWIW, I don't believe TV ad claims. Its been a long time since I've seen an engine oil ad. Most ads today are for lawyers or some drug to cure an ill of some sort.

I always use Mobile-1 from Costco, but only when they're on sale. Usually 10$ off, thus I stock up for a few changes till next sale.

Same. I have no brand loyalty. I do have a wallet loyalty though. I get the M1 when it's on sale and call it good.

I grew-up in a house where we used Valvoline 20/50 in everything, so as an adult I stayed on the Valvoline train (but using appropriate weights). When I bought a car a few years ago which required synthetic oil I tried Amsoil but later switched to M1. It’s what I run now in everything of mine and my GF’s which requires Synthetic oil. So far, so good!

In my older engines which don’t require Synthetic I use Quaker State conventional because it’s easier to find in my area then Valvoline.

The thing to watch for is the oil rating. The inexpensive Costco Kirkland 0w20 oil that I recently bought is SP GF-6 oil. However if you go to the Costco website the Kirkland oil still has the SN+ GF-5 rating. I assume they have not updated their website. I went to an auto parts store and some of the major brands of synthetic oils were still the old oil rating and some were the new oil rating. So it is probably a matter of the old inventory being used up. Check the label before you buy.
