I have several different brands of tools, Ryobi, Dewalt, Bosch, Milwaukee, Hitachi, Porter Cable. I have always leaned toward my 20v Dewalt tools when working on anything. But I recently bought a kit of Miwaukee M12 Fuel tools. And it feels like these things are ten times better than my Dewalt tools. I've been using them a lot lately and loving them. They're lighter, and seem just as if not more powerful, which I thought wasn't possible but after using them for the last month I'm hooked. My main use is woodworking.

Makita has always drawn my eye but I've never purchased anything form them, besides their Gold bit sets, which are probably one of the best that i've used

I use to like Dewalt until my old one broke and I got a new one. Thing just sucks. Not sure where I will go from here.

I’m a millwright. Milwaukee is the only thing you see at work. No one bothers with Dewalt.

I started with Makita 18v, when those died I went to Dewalt 20v and was disappointed. Now I'm back with Makita 18v and satisfied.

Makita 18v batteries quickly charge to full capacity. Their tools are quality and feel good in the hand, they last for years and handle abuse well.

Not saying Dewalt isn't quality but I wasn't nearly as satisfied as I was with my Makitas.

    Just my .02

I'm just blown away by the 12 volt Milwaukee tools, wish I bought their 18v stuff instead of the 20v dewalt tools

Like 20 some years back. Late to the party aren’t you?

Edit my bad B&D bought them in 1960!! B&D professional tools got rebranded to Dewalt in the early 90’s according to Wikipedia.

Not sure. Just my old one was a solid performer and the one I got recently is terrible. A local friend told me they were bought out by a Chinese conglomerate, but I have zero info to support that. The old one would go and go, had great features and never let me down. I feel like I am burning the motor out on this one if I use it for anything beyond the “yes dear” applications. Honestly I feel like my friends Ryobi is a better option. Venting over, back to the truck lol

And Stanley merged with Black and Decker in 2010. The parent company is, wait for it:

    Stanley Black and Decker.

I have an older 18V Dewalt set that I upgraded to Lithium Ion batteries and they work great. I use them all the time. I have a Milwaukee 18V set for work and they seem about the same to me. Well one is red and white and the other is yellow and black but performance is about the same.

Milwaukee all the way. Their impact with the larger battery is a lifesaver if you work on vehicles a lot. I know this is a power tool thread, but Gear-wrench makes some incredible/affordable hand tools for the weekend warrior. If you find them on sale, the ratcheting wrenches are amazing!

Owned Ryobi as long as I can remember. Their product line is always backwards compatible. Makes for a good long term investment in my opinion.

Ryobi are homeowner grade tools. I had a coworker (electrician) who kept buying them. They failed. Replaced with same because he had the batteries. Failed. Replaced again with the same. Failed. Finally his parents (who he worked for) bought him a Milwaukee set for his birthday. He never picked up the Ryobi’s again.

If you ONLY do light duty home stuff you may get away with Ryobi. If you use them all day long you are throwing your money away.

I'm a brand loyal guy, most everything I have is DeWalt. But if I need to get the job done and DeWalt's not cutting it, I move on to any brand that will.

I have dewalt and love it. 1/2" and 1/4" impact, 20v chainsaw, and drill. So far nothing has let me down. That said, I hear great things about milwaukee as well. I'd say they're both comparable.
