Out of all the answers in those threads above, this answer from @AgentCovert gets my vote as #1:

"Although many items fit, like a key or pens..the actual use is meant for cable management as it also lines up with a slot or groove below it for a phone charging cable in the body of the center console that allows the lid to close without pinching the cable..but it's your vehicle so you can use it for whatever you have a need for or wish..Toyota Care customer service will confirm it's for cable management.."

A tissue holder? Damn I’m missing out. Is that in a limited? Is there an option for a lotion dispenser also.

While it’s definitely the most practical use, I’ve always hated the way that comment is worded. It is clearly intended for the tailgate key from when the early 3rd gens‘ door and tailgate keys were separate.
If it were specifically designed for cable management, I feel like it would be shaped in a way that actually supports a cable for the length of the extrusion without the other plastic bits that do nothing for that purpose.
Having said that, this is absolutely the most functional use for something that not longer has a practical purpose

That space on the Tundra (where the coiled cord is) is usually perfectly shaped for a wet wipes (read: spoiled guy's toilet paper) container. Coincidence?
