Have to replace the auto trans oil pan on my 2011 taco. Using FIPG and want to make sure it doesn't leak. Understand I nee to apply FIPG, install pan and finger tighten all fasteners, let set for an hour and then using criss-cross pattern tighten to torque spec....$64 dollar question...what IS the correct torque spec?

I torqued to 39 INCH POUNDS on my 2006 tranny pan.

I used a new Fel Pro gasket only.

In my service manual one page tells me the torque is 30 in-lb and other 21 ft-lb.

    I made the numbers and 21ft-lb is a world more than 30 in-lb. Am I right?image.jpg

The 2nd pic that states 21ftlbs is for the drain plug. However, several TW members have stripped their pan by torquing the plug to that spec, because, apparently that spec is for dry threads. Personally, I’ve never used a torque wrench on a drain plug.

I just did a pan drop and full flush on my truck two days ago. I had to buy a new pan because I tried to torque the drain plug to 21 ft.-lbs. and it stripped the pan.

I had never done a transmission flush before so it was a $172 lesson learned.

If you put a new crush washer on and tighten with a wrench slowly, you can actually feel the washer give a little. That’s when your done. You just crushed the crush washer.

I use common sense to torque all mentioned above. Never had a leak; never stripped anything.
