Hey guys! I have a Samsung washer and dryer that I'm about to return to Costco because the dryer broke down a few weeks ago and Samsung has attempted to fix it twice and it's still messed up. I don't trust it anymore, I'm over it. It's about six months old and the repairs are covered by the warranty and all, but this is ridiculous. What is the most reliable brand of washer and dryer anymore?

Background, I'm looking for a top-loader washer and a gas dryer. My folks still have the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer since like 2005. The only issue with them is the typical front loader mildew, besides that I'm pretty sure they'll last another twenty years.

Sooo... Yeah. What's a reliable brand of washer and dryer to look at? I'm thinking LG, Whirlpool, Maytag, just wanna make sure those haven't become crap in the past few years. Thanks!

They don’t make them like they used to, that’s for damn sure!

I have a new Maytag set and let me tell you, these energy efficient water saving things are annoying. I hate that they lock now when it’s washing. They’re alright but definitely don’t make them like they used to.

No kidding! The igniter died, and the dryer wasn't heating up anymore. Simple fix, right? Samsung tech comes out and the one spare igniter in his van was broken. They ordered the part and rescheduled me, and the part showed up broken two more times. They finally got it installed this morning, but I'm guessing the tech didn't put it back together right. The drum doesn't spin, but the belt is just slipping away and it filled the dryer and the garage with a burnt rubber smell after only ten minutes of use. It's a good thing I went and checked on it.

Anyway like I said, I'm over it. Warranty work doesn't mean shit if they can't do it right and they string me along for weeks and weeks.

Does it work well, and has it held up?

I had a roommate who had an old-school Maytag set from like 2014. Pretty sure they didn't lock. He offered me to buy them when he sold his house and I wish I did...

So far they’ve been working well after a little over a year. I’ve had to switch to liquid detergent though since the powder doesn’t dissolve well with less water. I didn’t get the most expensive or the lowest quality. But either way I hate doing laundry, new or old machines, that will never change.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
LG for washers and dryers--even though I hate to admit it. Their dishwashers are POSITIVE JUNK! Rest of their stuff is slightly above average with the fridges slightly below average. We got a pair of front loaders when they first came out with front loaders. they ran fine till I left something in my pocket that broke an impeller in the washer pump. I went on line found out how to fix it - did -- ran fine again. Saw a new pair on a great sale -sold the old pair for 600 bucks - bought the new set for about 900. Running fine still . I think I spent 30 dollars (pump)on that first pair. Not bad for about 20 years of running time
Consumer Reports -will back me up on this --LG runs away with their ratings on washer/ dryers
ON ANY front loader washer -- make sure they are LEVEL and stable -- extra important for this type of a machine due to their hi speed rotation

Awesome! Thanks. Help me out here, I've heard from several people to avoid Samsung appliances and I didn't listen. Are LG and Samsung the same thing, like a Hyundai/Kia thing, or no?

900 bucks is a steal. That's the other thing, my set was over $1,500. Costco's return policy is about to majorly come in clutch.

I've always used liquid detergent, but I'm a youngin'. Even those 2005 Whirlpool machines my parents have take HE detergent. I have been frustrated by OxiClean powder not rinsing out, but one thing I do like about the Samsung is the ability to dial up as much extra rinse as you want.

...yeah I don't like doing laundry either...

I’ve got a set of Sears Kenmore appliances in a rental apartment that are 20+ years old and run like a top.

My advice would be to call and appliance repair shop, not a shop that sells them but one that only works on them, and ask what they recommend. I just replaced my 30 y/o whirlpool dishwasher with a new whirlpool. But can’t say the same about washer/dryer. I have Samsung now that I hate but I didn’t pay for them either.

I hate the Samsung fridge we have....

We have old school laundry. I'll pay to repair them for the rest of my life if I can't get them going again myself.... Rollers went out two years ago... Amazon set shit the bed 11 months in... Got new OEM ones from the shop down the street....

Really most brands are the same with different skins or options. I've fixed a lot of them at my last job, and any unit without a "brain" would be a solid choice. Base model units without computers.

There aren't many manufacturers actually making them, just different names mostly. LG I heard mentioned, they suck with dishwashers and fridges, however laundry units aren't they bad. Whirlpool, fine. Roper, fine. Maytag, I think they are decent. Many others are good options.
All will break for some reason cause quality isn't great now, so ease of maintenance and parts availability is priority for me.

Maytag or Speed Queen. Honorable mention is Amana-we beat the hell out of them while the kids were still at home-loaded to the MAX every load. That said I recently paid big $$$ for a GE front load washer because it is the only manufacturer that has a reversible door. It even has wifi and can even dry a light load of clothes!

We’re looking at dishwashers, including LG-what model did you have and what problems? We have an LG dishwasher and it was great for 5 years but the motor just went out (10 year warranty on motor) We bought an extended 5 year warranty (a must these days!) with it from Lowes, and because we have the extended warranty and parts not available for 6 weeks they are refunding our entire purchase price! So we will buy a new one. Maybe even a new LG with that kind of warranty lol.

I've been pre-mixing it in a small pail with hot water and dumping it on the clothes just before I start the wash cycle, used to experience the same thing you are.
