What is the best 2023 Tacoma for off-roading (right "out of the box")?

Also, what makes the Tacoma superior for offroading (compared to other trucks like the F-150, Jeep Gladiator, and Chevy Silverado)?

    1. Gonna have to define offroading first; do you mean rock crawling, plowing through mudholes, driving gravel roads, or 99% on road with 1% want to go camping somewhere.

    2. You're comparing a midsized truck to full-sized trucks, and a tacoma being superior is still debatable.

    1) Pro. Everything the OR has plus better shocks

    2) Hard to argue the Tacoma is better than the Jeep, aside from reliability. Compared to a Full Size its a smaller physical size.

You should probably ask where its worse too...

No one can answer your first question unless you tell us what kind of “off roading” you plan on doing.

Really the only benefit the Tacoma has over some other trucks (full size trucks) is that it can fit better on tighter trails.

Jokes aside, TRD PRO/OFF ROAD are the most capable “right out of the box”.

Tacoma is superior to full size trucks off-road due to its smaller size, weight and tucked in frame.

A jeep is the best for off-roading.

Is there really any off road situation where one version of the Tacoma is better than the other though, stock vs stock? I cannot really see the Pro being worse at say mud than a SR5. Its cheaper, that is for sure, but is there any off road situation that a lower trim is "better" at doing? Stock to stock and when cost isn't a consideration.

Each trims have different suspensions. Some settings favor certain ride characteristics, like shocks that are more firm, or less firm, for example. Now is it really that noticable of a difference between trims, for crappy stock shocks? I'd say probably not, but an entire suspension forum on this site would prove otherwise. There are some sensitives asses around here. (in more than one aspect :anonymous:)

As an owner of Bilstein 6112's I get that. Playing devils advocate, would that make it more capable off road though? Or just more comfortable? I would have to imagine that in all off road situations the Pro's Fox shocks would be "better" performance wise.

(not that I'm a pro advocate in general)

yeah, its kinda just a giant rabbit hole to go down to ultimately come to the same conclusion (that it doesn't really matter if you're not gonna be offroading in the first place). I think capability is gonna be the same across any of the 4x4 offerings. And its just another debate to discuss the nanny features, to figure out which is most capable or reliable. My vote is for the PRO as well, for an out of the box truck. Reality is OP will probably see nothing more than a gravel road though.

The best Taco for off roading is the one that the person answering the question has.

Really depends on alot mate, a RAV4 with the right tires and good driver will do better in alot of places than a tacoma with shit tires and a bad driver. Comparing to the others isnt really helpfull either. Jeeps are great, the F150s are good to, but full sized.
