I was planning on ordering 4 runner trd pro wheels and getting some larger tires. I wanted to just leave the old rims and tires the way they are. Where is everyone getting TPMS sensors from? and what works good? wasn't sure if i could trust ebay sensors

Find the part number for your truck by calling your local dealer or searching an online dealer catalog. Punch that number into Amazon. I got 4 oem ones from there for about 120. Any reputable tire shop can relearn them to your truck.

What are you doing with the old wheels and tires? If you’re gonna store them for a long time you’re probably better off just using the sensors you already have and they won’t need to be reprogrammed. Here it’s $160 to match up the sensors to your vehicle. Then you have the cost of the new sensors itself.

I've replaced TPMS on 3 vehicles with sensors bought off Amazon. Depending on the vehicle they run about $25 each, but most are offered in a 4 pack at about $80. I had to buy 5 for my Tacoma since it has one in the spare too. They have all worked perfectly.

I timed buying mine when replacing tires anyway. The old sensors were still working, but were 8+ years old at the time. Most only last 7-8 years. No extra charge when doing that. Most places charge $10-$15/tire if not mounting new tires anyway.

    These were for my F150

I got 4 new sensors from the dealer for my Level 8 Mk.6 wheels.
The old wheels were steel so I had to get new sensors.

There is a difference in the sensors between steel and aluminum wheels.

Bought some VDO redi sensor se10003a eith new wheels/tires....however after getting installed at Discount Tire, they are not registering. Guess i maybe wrongly assumed they would sync them up, or they just don't work.

I dont know, TPMS dummy here.

I wish the 2022's would move to sensorless. I had a had new spa 2016 XC90 that had the actual parts in wheel, after that lease we upgraded to a 2019 XC90 and learned they went sensorless TPMS. Basically you calibrate and the correct psi and it monitors the rotations to see if the tire delfated.

I prefer having actual sensors esp when airing down so I can monitor the PSI

When I bought new wheels from DT, they talked me into new sensors rather than trying to transfer the old ones to the new wheels. They installed and synced them up and they've been working perfectly now for two years. Aftermarket not Toyota OEM. Can not remember the exact price but it was $20-$25 per wheel range. Worked out great as it was an extra incentive when I sold the OEM (OR) wheels for $30 less than the new wheels (Methods) I bought. Made upgrading the wheels much more economical.

I wouldn’t trust eBay sensors… I bought a set for my new wheel back in Jan. Had the dealership sync them to the truck. Takes 10-15 min each trip in the truck before they will register, read and show on the screen. Then randomly will cut out and cause the light and low air message. I should have gotten them swapped from the old wheels to the new ones. Even if it would have cost more to have the shop do that and then put the new wheel/tires on my truck. I don’t remember the brand of sensors though. We’re about 40-50 bucks for the set.

I am supposing if Toyota dealer changes the wheels then they would ensure the sensors are transferred. Right? That seems like the logical thing to do.

Since my vehicle is still in transit, my plan was to (1) buy the wheels, (2) have Toyota put the wheels on when it gets to dealership, (3) go to Discount Tire to replace the tires, and (4) sell the stock wheels and tires.

I've already completed #1 - bought the wheels.

But I hadn't thought about the sensors.

I ordered mine from Tire Rack . @$160 to my door. Didn’t want to take a chance with Amazon units that I wasn’t familiar with.
