just wondering, i see everyone talking about all of the TRD pre-runners and the TRD off-road. to check on lift height, a neighbor has a TSS tacoma, so i measured center hub to bottom of fender to do a compare. then thought about it, is that measurement even valid when comparing to a TRD truck? his was about 20" from center hub to bottom of fender flare.

    just curious

    cheers,

It's the same suspension as a base and SR5 pre-runner or 4x4, same springs as a TRD sport. They should all have the same ride height. My Texas edition is the same as the TSS, just different badges.

the base and the pre-runners and 4x4 dont have same suspension...?

    the base is a 5-lug

    cheers,

So I've been searching all over the internet and this forum trying to understand the exact difference between the TRDs and the TSS packages. Is the TSS package now just the TRD Sport with a different appearance package then? From what I've been able to find, which isn't much, that's the best thing I can seem to understand.

The TSS package has different wheels and running boards, I think that's all the package Includes. TRD Sport has hood scoop painted bumpers Bilstien shocks. TRD Off road has electric rear locker and Bilstien shocks.
At least that's how I understood it when I purchased my truck.

But the TSS comes in a 4WD and long bed model, essentially making it just a decorated TRD sport.

TSS and Texas Editions are cosmetic upgrades to either a base or SR5 model Tacoma. They put 17" special wheels, black step tubes, floor mats and some decals. TRDs are completely different. Upgraded interiors, outlet in the bed. The sport also has turn signal mirrors, fake hook skewp, slightly upgraded shocks, painted grill surround and bumper. TRD off road adds a rear locking differential, different front springs, a brake booster and a couple other off-road nannies. Both TRD have the yellow/blue bilstein shocks but the off road has different springs in front.

Nope, see above. You can get the TSS in either pre-runner or 4WD and short or long bedlike the TRD sport though. TRD Off-road is short bed only unless you get an access or regular cab.

so the TSS doesn't have the bed outlet? Lame. I see them everywhere in Arkansas, but never could figure out what the difference was. So they're not even as good as the TRD sport? Which I know some people claim the TRD Sport isn't all that grand either, but whatever. I like mine.

So the TSS doesn't have any upgraded suspension or anything like that either correct?

Correct. I am 99% sure it's the same as my Texas Edition. It has the base/SR5 suspension on it. No outlet in bed. Just wheels, tires, step tubes and stickers.

Your interior looks pretty much the same as mine though, minus the fact that you have a newer truck. You seem like you like your Texas edition though. Any complaints or things you wish you had?

Not sure about older Tacomas but the new TRDs have softer seats and different cloth. Never ridden in one but everyone on here claims the seats are way better.

I probably would've gotten the TRD Off-road if I could do it all over again but no serious regrets. An SR5 Tacoma 4x4 is plenty capable.

I'd love to have the rear locking diff the off-road has, but I love my long bed and double cab.
Thanks for your help. Your truck is sick by the way. Every time I see those TSS rims I get jealous.

Thanks! If you want the rims bad enough, you can buy them. I've seen them for sale on-line at a few places.

TSS is simply a base model sr5 with earrings... THATS IT. You dont get ANY extra functionality over a base model (like bed outlet etc)

TX packages (TX Pro and TX Baja) are different than "texas" editions.
