I bought an extended warranty the other day over the phone. The man asked me for my VIN and then HE told me how many miles I had on my truck. I asked him how he knew and he said it is in the Toyota data base. Does anyone know what else is being transmitted from our trucks to the data base, and for what reason. Also, what device is doing the transmitting?

The information is being sold to China to ease the pain of absorption into their world domination.
Just eat your fast food and watch your tiktok like the rest of the country, everything will be fine.

You signed an agreement, you didn't read it?!

You can probably opt out, but then your mobile app won't work, you won't get service notifications, etc.

I can't remember if they potentially sell it to advertisers, who could then do things like sending you motor oil ads when they know it's time for an oil change, but I don't think they do that. Yet.

You are currently eating Cheetos while lounging in a beanbag chair, and watching Ron White for the 15th time. The database is pretty dang detailed.

Though the section I can access just has the service records, and it's pretty easy to project milage from that.

    Toyota says, ……

"Your vehicle wirelessly transmits location, driving and vehicle health data to deliver your services and for internal research and data analysis. To disable these features including active safety features, call 1‑800‑331‑4331."

According to at least one member here, you can pull the DCM fuse. But there’s a backup battery.

It knows if your doors are unlocked or windows are open. It knows the vehicles location. It knows your mileage and how full your tank and tires are. It would know if you have ecodes going off. It knows how you drive, accelerate, corner, and brake and keeps a grade. It knows if you have a safety recall or are due for oil change according to mileage. And I'm sure more.
The question is, after your “free subscription” period from time if purchase, and you don't pay for that shit, is big brother corporate toyota still tracking you and your habits?

I would say yes because I don't have any active subscriptions, they've expired and the app is still tracking my miles and tire pressure. So I assume there still listening to my conversations and tracking where I am just like alexa.

Well... No, I didn't read anything. I also let the subscription expire after 3 free months so I didn't think anything of it. I just didn't know. Now I do. Thanks for the replies and information.

Toyota gives you a driver score, Toyota knows if you accelerate hard, brake hard, basically have fun driving. If you break down they know the location you had your issue.

You are being tracked by your phone, when you use an ATM, or a credit card. Police cars have license plate scanners and are probably running plates routinely looking for a match for suspects. All of your buying habits and web searches are captured. Toyota surely tracks vehicle specs/performance, health, and probably location. I doubt if any of this is live, active, immediate retrieval information but instead captured in a database somewhere so it can be normalized and studied for reference or accessed when needed. ‘They’ know everything. I wouldn’t worry about it.

I have a aftermarket Sony head unit that works with CarPlay, so by now Sony, Apple, and Siri/google knows my every spoken word. And since I use Bluetooth to connect, I wonder who else is listening in? I’m not sure any of us has any real privacy. With or without a Toyota head unit, Toyota still probably knows my truck is parked in my garage.

Anyone who's worried about their information being captured and distributed via their vehicle has a choice, Turn off the phone when using the vehicle, but they just have to get those texts out while driving.
