There is a button under the dash that has set written on it. It is located beside the one to raise the hood. What is the purpose for this?

I was sitting in my office today and I thought to myself, "I need to find out what that set button is for." When I bought the truck, the previous owner told me about it, but I'd forgotten...I have a terminal case of CRS. :)

In my defense, my truck isn't my daily driver. It's strictly a tow vehicle and I probably drive it maybe a few dozen times a year. Consequently, I'm not and never will be a Tacoma expert, which is why I rely on the expertise of others and sites like TacomaWorld.

Anyway, curiosity got the better of me and I didn't feel like waiting around until the end of the day. So, I thought I'd pop over to Tacomaworld and find out. Knowing I'd get crucified by the forum Nazi's for not conducting a thorough search first, I stumbled upon this thread and to be frank, all it managed to do was piss me off.

Yes, the question was answered and thank you for that, but was it really freaking necessary to hammer the OP with the "Read the Manual" bullshit?!?

NO it wasn't, but it seems like every time I turn around I see seasoned members shitting on newbies at virtually every opportunity. In the time it took to berate the guy for not seeking the information via that insanely detailed manual, someone could have just answered the damn question.

But no...not only did the very first response not answer the question, he chose to unload on the guy's very FIRST and literally LAST post at TacomaWorld. Yea, one post and he's never been back...nice hospitality!

I'm pretty sure that member knew the answer, but he simply couldn't resist the desire to knock the guy down a peg or two...and then he couldn't be bothered with answering the actual question...or he didn't actually know the answer, but just felt like kicking sand in the guys face. What a hero.

Either way, it seems to me that when someone comes to a forum as vast as TacomaWorld and asks a simple question, if your only response is "Read the Manual" then your just being a dick and your simply trolling members. Should the guy read his manual, sure, but it's completely unnecessary to tell him to do so...seriously...it's amazing how hard it is for some people to simply be civil to other human beings.

Honestly, if I ran this forum, you'd get banned for telling a member to "Read the manual" because it's rude and unnecessary. Christ, if I wanted to walk on eggshells and dread asking questions, I go visit my ex-wife. Then again, maybe some of you have met my ex...that would certainly explain the unnecessary hostility.

I look at it like this, your either part the solution or your part of the problem...and if your only goal is to dump on other members, then maybe, just maybe, you fall into the later category.

    Have a great day.

Totally agree! And guess what Manual Pirates, the Manual does a piss poor job of explaining how to use the button and furthermore my dealer ALSO told me NOT to use the button because it causes more problems than it is worth. They said most the time folks use the reset the damn system never re-reads the sensors then you have to have it done again. This happened to me. Same sensors, same wheels, and I rotated the tires and hit the button thinking I was doing the correct thing and BAM! No more readouts. Dealer had to re-program. So, before yelling to RTFM, maybe think the manuals are written by engineers and most the time they don't cover what those of us with experience can. Another example of a poor manual translation: The NAV system. Terrible manual. Period. Almost as bad as the damn head unit itself.

With 3 posts under your belt... Maybe get to know some of the members before getting all bent of shape and insulting others. Just a thought. You will make more friends than enemies with a better outlook on our forum. It’s a free country and if someone posts a simple to answer question that can be found in the manual, the response may not always be what you want, so better to just go with the flow than insult people you don’t even know. Makes you sound like an asshole calling people Nazi’s etc. Have a good one.

So let me get this straight... It’s okay to insult the members of our community by using the term “forum Nazi’s”? Can you pull that up in the code of conduct? That’s where my problem lies. Whether what he is saying is what’s right or not isn’t the question. It’s the sly remarks that aren’t necessary to maintain civility.

That's cuz these guys that bash others have the safety of the internet. They wouldn't talk trash to a stranger like this when they're face to face... They would likely be missing some teeth if they did. But behind the computer they are able to be the "internet tough guy".

Not to mention there is a stereotype here that is largely composed of assholes. There's a lot of helpful nice people here but also a large blend of the previously stated assholes.

No I would totally talk my shit in person.

In person you would see there’s no malice in it. You might even smile.

The problem is sensitivity. Not the other way around.
