I wouldn't mind getting a little more light out of my 2010's headlights without going the HID route. Just don't have the $$ right now to do it plus I seem to read quite a bit about issues people have even with the "good ones".

So, what bulbs should I replace the stock ones with?

I've always used Sylvania's. People here say that high dollar bulbs don't make a difference and then suggest PIAA bulbs. They also say Sylvania's don't last long (this hasn't been my experience).

I've never used PIAA, but my Sylvania's I've been using on every vehicle since 2002 and I've never had any issues with premature failure. They definitely produced more visibility than the stock bulbs they replaced. In fact, the set I had in my Chevy lasted from 2002 when I put them in until I sold it last year. It had DTRLs, also. That is more life than I ever had in any other brand of bulb.

I plan on Sylvania's in my Tacoma.

I bought Vision X brand bulbs from Amazon....this was a year ago and they are still going strong. I bought the bibeam bulbs and the fog bulbs....they are noticeably whiter than stock and they have a faint blue hue at the bottom of the headlight....they come with a lifetime warranty, so if that helps

Philips Extreme Power or PIAA Xtreme White bulbs. I like the PIAA ones a bit better but I thought both were an improvement over stock. I went back to PIAA bulbs after yanking my projectors out.

Just last week I emailed Daniel Stern Lighting and he recommended the Osram Ralleye 70/65w as the best stock replacement bulb available. They aren't technically legal but will not be a problem with properly adjusted headlights. He also suggested Phillips X-Treme Vision H11's for the fogs (which he does not sell, so is an unbiased suggestion). Mine are on the way.

About ten years ago I purchased a pair of Sylvania Xtravision sealed beams (whole light replacement) for my 1986 Toyota truck. I ran them for awhile, then decided to try something else. I bought a pair of GE High Output sealed beams for around $20 at Walmart. I don't know if they still carry them, or if the separate bulbs that our trucks use will give such a dramatic increase compared to the whole sealed beam housing, but those GEs were the best value I've ever seen. HUGE improvement. Eventually I will try some new bulbs, the GE offering will probably be my first choice, hoping for the same excellent value.

Funny enough, I'm an appliance repair tech by trade, and I won't allow GE appliances in my house, but their jet engines and light bulbs seem to be pretty good!

I can only say don't waste your money on the Silverstars. I've bought multiple sets and they all fail at almost exactly 6 months. Went through two sets and both always failed within 2 days of each other.... even the fogs.

I'am running the reg. silver stars in my fogs and the silver star ultras in my tacomas headlights since 2009. Havent had a single issue and the light output is great. I also have silver star ultras in my camaro and sonoma and have yet to replace them as well.

obviously your experience may vary based upon the responses.

I ran original Silverstars in my old Dodge, they were 4 years old when I sold the truck and going strong.

I put Silverstar Ultra's into my 09 Tacoma when I bought it two years ago, and they are also still going strong.

both a great improvement over the stock bulb.

I installed my Osram 65/70's and I'm liking them. The 2013 has bright headlights already so I wasn't expecting much change but there is a very noticeable difference in spread and throw. No they aren't fancy blue lights but for anyone just looking for good light, these are great.
