What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Chasing down a weird overheating issue (it's happened twice after hard mountain pass driving). So far I've done a coolant flush, replaced the thermostat and radiator cap.

Today I did the clutch fan.

Also cleaned the fan blades, lots of dirt build up.

We shall see how this helps, if not, next up is radiator, water pump and radiator hoses

 

get the rad loose I've helped friends chase overheating issues, and thrown parts like you have, only to remove the AC condenser from the mount, and found like a bunch of cotton wood fluf or other random stuff behind it pinned to the radiator causing a blockage. washed that all clear and back to normal. might be worth a look

 

102 K , did my Cat flange back exhaust today. Everything was solid except the flange. Not bad for a 16 year old Taco.

 

Test fitting 35s to see how much cutting needs to be done.

FCT072 the AISIN part # for the fan clutch? Pink ones are the 4.0 w/ tow package I believe? Was looking on Rockauto the other day for myself and didn't see two different options and want to make sure I get the heavier duty tow package one.

 

I should have while it was all apart. I did a pretty good inspection and couldn't see much build up. But if the fan was an indication of anything, it definitely has some.

Although the new clutch fan was definitely worth it. Noticeable increase of air flow

 

Yup! Mine has the tow package as well. But that is the correct PN

 

Finally flushed out the hinges on my gas flap. Doesn't scrape nearly as bad anymore!

Also oil change.

 

Thanks! On my list for later this spring/summer around 200k with the water pump and thermostat.

 

I wish I did my water pump when I did the coolant flush. Definitely worth it doing it all together

 

Steering feels pretty damn heavy actually. Isn’t stock caster supposed to be 2 degrees?

Fit test of my new wheels, everything looks good. Plenty of clearance, knew there would be but didn't want to find out the hard way. 16 hole OE-style steelies, black.

Drooled over the tires in the garage again. Excited to get them on the truck and out of my way in the shop. Hopefully by May I'll get that wrapped up.

Checked and greased the driveshaft u-joints. Seems they were replaced not long before I got the truck, they still look nearly new. Carrier bearing has seen better days though, so I'll get one of those on order...

Oh, and slapped a new sticker on the back window. Gotta have a little stupid fun, right?

 

Added a new set of wheels and tires, couldn't be happier!

Today was upgrade day! Swapped out my dual ss3 ditch lights for some ss5s (thanks for the inspo @TegoTaco ) from @memario1214 . Gave my old ss3 pro SAEs to my girlfriend ( I drive her car a lot and the lighting is atrocious).

Next up, when I have a spare 2k, is 5 ss5s to replace my rigid bar

 

found some cancer, looks like fibreglass fenders will be in the near future.

 

I hate the look of a blocky rack on a cab so I got the cheapest most expensive racks they make to haul my kayak.
