What exactly is SR5 premium audio with dynamic nav

What exactly is "premium audio" and will CarPlay still be compatible with navigation on the standard option?

Since you are shopping, you might check if higher trim models have the package as standard equipment. In 2016, my Sport came with Entune Premium as standard equipment. I hope others chime in, because I would like to know why you have to pay $1700 for 3-years of Nav.

 

My 23 Tacoma has the navigation feature. If I connect my Phone ( android ) once Android Auto starts, It becomes the primary source for navigation.

 

From what I can see the standard system on an OR trim is the same with the option to enable remote connect

That's helpful, I'm just trying to find out what exactly is the "premium" part of the audio because it sounds like this package is $1700 for built in navigation and parking sonar when I'll be using CarPlay 100% of the time making it useless. Am I missing something? Did you get the Dynamic Navigation package?

 

aarcarr, yes. When I have android auto, it uses the navigation from my phone instead of the built-in navigation. If android auto is not connected, it uses the built in navigation. I always use the phone navigation, since I opted out of the connected services.

What the hell is "dynamic?" Is that some new buzzword for "connects to the internet?"

My 2018 has HD radio, Nav, POI search, and Voice Recognition - it came with the truck as standard equipment.

I still use google on my phone over that.

Sounds like you get to drive around with less weight by being $1700 lighter

The brochure only mentions JBL with some of the TRD off road and sport premium packages though, I imagine they would specify that brand name if it was included

 

Im going to try since its not built yet and nothing explains what is premium about this audio system

I don't see that, this is what shows standard

Hmmm I am not sure, then as I played around with the builder and it seems all the different packages all listed as Premium Audio and Dynamic Nav, gave you either the parking sonar or the blind spot monitors. I did notice on Toyota's website, if you look at the interior it updates the picture with what new buttons you get and you will see a JBL logo under the headunit if you have it.

 

I have a 2021 SR5 with the dynamic navigation Package.

I did not want the feature and did not pay for it. When I signed the allocation sheet and negotiated the price the nav package was not on in. When the permanent vin was assigned and went into production the parking and nav were on the vehicle but the dealer stuck with the original contract and the negotiated price.

All that said, I would not pay for it. Basically, you get parking sonar and built-in navigation with destination assistance and point of interest assistance kind of like On Star, etc. You have to pay for the POI and destination after a year and pay for updates to Navigation (maps) after 3. Most of this is totally useless if you use your phone for navigation. Your phone still works with car play with the basic SR5 (V6) audio and with the upgraded package.

I guess if you like the ability to call a person and ask for a gas station or restaurant near you (and want to pay yearly) it's worth it? Or you live/travel a lot in areas with no cell service and need Navigation, Preloaded maps on nav should still pull up a route. I have no basis for audio quality between the basic and the upgrade.

After having the parking sonar it is a nice feature and use it all the time but paying $1700 for that is questionable. I wanted an SR5 with no add-ons, accessories, packages, floormats etc. I don't like or need the bells and whistles in a truck. Some people do, and that's fine, so take my feedback with that in mind.

 

You are correct, The SR5 is Not JBL. JBL is only in OR and higher. Looks like HD radio is the big "premium" updrade

Toyota will not change the build. Do you have a negotiated price or a down payment on the truck? Negotiating with the dealer would be your best bet. They may split the cost with you.

Also, watch out for the dreaded RED interior (Black with Red Accent Stitching Fabric). Unless you want the red stitching and accent panels/dash

 

The dealer said they’ll send the requested change but I’m not counting on it
