What exactly do I have for my VVT System?

I've read a ton of threads and watched any YouTube clip I could on VVT and Oil Control Valves. What exactly do I have in my 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport, 4 door, 4X4? I have the 3.5, 2GR-FKS engine and I'm getting a code of P0022. A basic scanner came up with "Change your Oil Control Valve Bank 2". Toyota Dealership had no idea what I was talking about when I called for parts price and info. I think all the videos and reading have confused me. I was going to pull it and try to clean it up, but most of the vids and reading are about older Tacoma's or other Toyota models.

So #1, How many are there on each Bank?
    #2 Where is it on a 2017?
#3 Does anyone have a part number?

My problem is a check Engine light, followed by a Trac Off light. The Trac Off goes off at 30mph and back on under 30mph. Engine light stays on. If I break with both on, I get a big warning that reads "Brake Override Malfunction and the truck goes into limp mode. I did figure out that I can reset that real quick by disconnecting the positive cable for a few seconds and reconnecting. But I keep the other warning lights. Basically, I drive normal and when I'm not on the gas, I flip the truck into neutral and coast. The back to drive when it's time to accelerate. Also, I can leave the battery disconnected all night, and everything resets for about 5 miles and warning lights come back.

I really could use some direct help. Thanks for any Insite to my problem.

I would not go buying and replacing sensors for this error. There could be a valid issue with cam timing. What is the maintenance history of the truck? Oil changed on a regular basis? I think the sensors are the same between bank 1 and 2. You could swap them to verify the problem moves. If it doesnt, you have a timing issue.

Regular on time oil changes. So, I just have sensors? Or is there an oil control valve or small screen filter that I've seen on so many?

The 2GR-FKS has VVT on both intake and exhaust cams according to what I see. So that would be 4 total OCVs

P0022 points towards the intake cam on bank 2. I know they are not interchange on the 2nd gens as they are mirror images (bolts and brackets dont line up). I would assume the same for 3rd gens? Let me see what else I can find

Do you have any other codes?

There are totsl 4 cam timing oil control solenoids. 1 intake and 1 exhaust per back, front of the engine.
Your code is for intake on 2nd bank(driver side).
Try to delete code, if comes back:
    -Check the wiring first.
-Check if some junk got caught in the solenoid filter.
    -replace
-troubleshoot camshaft gear and valve timing

They might actually be interchangeable on this engine. Still interested to know if you have any other codes or pending codes

SR-71A- No other codes. Those are real accessible on the front of the heads. I keep seeing diagrams and videos of the cylinder type solenoids and valves. That's great! It's been hard to find info on my 2017 setup.

Vlady- That's part of what I'm looking for. The filters and solenoids.

It looks like the 3rd gen 2GR-FKS VVT system is quite a bit diferent from the 2nd gen system. It appears the filter screen is part of the camshaft bearing cap?? Seems a little odd they would put the filter in such an inaccessible spot. Maybe they felt the failure rate was low enough.

It appears this is still a solenoid, not some sort of servo driven system like I was thinking earlier. But I cant find any reference resistance values in the manual to test the coil.

Yes, you can remove them. Just need to set crankshaft to 1st cylinder tdc and hold it there while removing them.
