For my Tacoma, Civic, and Explorer I use Penszoil full synthetic and Napa pro select filters.
Only reason I choose Penszoil is Napa use to have really a good deal where 1 quart bottles were $3.00 each, I think the rebate limit was 24 quarts.
I think I am going to try the Kirkland (Costco) full synthetic oil when it goes on sale again.
I change each vehicles oil approx every 5000 miles.

Mobil 1 and a oem filter. I generally get filters from Amazon for maybe 20-25 for 5 filters. Now I've seen at some parts stores for maybe a dollar more. The mobil 1 is more a preference. As long as your on top of your maintenance oil brand doesn't seem to matter much.20201220_095626.jpg

I use Lucas 5w-30 synthetic (SKU number 10049) and a Toyota OEM filter. Change every 5k. I work at a Lucas distributor so I get it pretty cheap. Otherwise I used to use Mobil 1.

Although the 4.0 is not picky. I would still use a full synthetic oil and a good filter though.

In the Tacoma I use Castrol 5w-30 High Mileage with an OEM filter. In my other two vehicles I am also using Castrol Oil with Wix Filters.

Ha. I’ve already fallen for this trick. Post a question about motor oil and filter. Get pulled in the debate over which is better. You can’t fool me. I’m not gonna get tricked into posting this time.

    Oh, dang it.

$50 bucks = full retail for a case of filters (10). Get them on sale.

Mobile One Full Synthetic 5 quart jugs when the rebates going = $12 or so.

    Crush washer = $1.

10k intervals. Send out a sample if you’re afraid. Any shorter interval is money down the drain.

I use Gastrol oil and the OEM Toyota DDD filter cause Triple D's is the only way to go.

I bought the same items for my oil changes and save a lot of money DIY, plus being under the truck I check things over and grease the zerk fittings too.

With oil changes every 5k you really cant go wrong with whatever you choose. These aren't performance engines that require some high end oil. I use Mobile 1 full synthetic and a wix XP from oreilys. Buy a 5 quart jug then a 1 quart bottle every other change and take the old oil in the next time I go to get more for free recycle. The 4.0 is a workhorse as long as you keep it lubed up in some form it will run a long time.

I went through this recently and decided to use mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 and I couldn’t be happier . I wouldn’t put the other stuff in (high mileage ) when you don’t need it if your not leaking or losing oil .

I've been using Mobile 1 and doing 10K oil changes with a new filter at 5K since new. Has worked for 212,000 miles. I use whatever filter I can find at Walmart. I'm convinced full synthetic is better, especially for 10K intervals. And the 5 qt jugs are under $25 each at Walmart.

Last time I changed I used the Costco brand. They sell 2 five quart jugs for about the same price as one jug of Mobile 1.

Kirkland Signature 5W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil 5-quart, 2-pack (costco.com)
