What does "TRD Sport SR5" mean, exactly?

Hello to everyone - new member here with lots of questions.
I've been lurking and reading lots of great things posted at this site - it's been very informative; you guys do a great job answering questions.
I don't know much about trucks, but I do know that I love love love my Tacoma. I've had it for a few years now, and I still love it, despite it starting to show its age a bit. It's a 2006 V6 SR5, TRD Sport, 4x4, 4.0L. Leather interior, upgraded stereo/sound, hood scoop, color-matched bumpers, electric outlet in the rear...can't think of what else. I don't really off-road with it that much; it's my daily driver.
I bought it used from a Toyota dealer. It doesn't LOOK like it's had any modifications, but based on what it's got, is thing considered stock? In reading numerous posts here on this site, I'm not sure if it's all stock or not, and i'm not sure if it's an unusual 'version' or not...? Some guys have told me it's a kinda rare version, some have said it is not rare at all.
I'm at the point where I need to decide if I should sell it and maybe trade up (the new Tacomas look soooo cool!), or do I fix it up a little, maybe modify it (?), and hang on to it as long as it keeps running.
My inclination is to keep it. I still love it, it only has 108,000 miles on it, it runs great, and - best thing - it's been paid off for years!
I know I want to replace the headlights - they've got that scum on them, and i've already cleaned it off once. Any recommendations on these? I keep seeing "For Sport model" vs. "Not for Sport model" - what's the difference??
Thanks very much for any advice!

Sounds like you've got an upgraded stereo and someone added leather, that's never been an option in theses trucks (think it still isn't in the 16+... someone else wanna confirm that??)

As far as trading it in vs. holding on to it I'd say do the later for a couple reasons. 1. You say it's paid for, don't dump money into something brand new (that's still got bugs Toyota is figuring out) and instead spend that money on a few upgrades on this truck. 2. As stated, the new trucks are having some particularly annoying issues that I'm sure Toyota will figure out but as with any release of a brand new drivetrain (or anything) there are problems and your current truck sounds like it doesn't have any.

As far as sport vs. anything else. The sport came with a towing package usually including a transmission cooler and a different rear end than the Off-Road edition. That and the scoop are really the only major differences in the 2.

For replacing the headlights. Those are the same across the board, no need for special "sport" lights so don't let someone gimmic you there

Sounds like you have a TRD Sport model. SR5 is a package that comes standard with the TRD models and is an upgrade for the base model.

My vote would be to keep it, it's paid off, you still love it, modify it and make it more yours.

As @NewRider said leather was an after purchase upgrade, didn't come as an option in 2006 (as far as I know).

3rd gens do have an option for factory leather. The limited and TRD pro come with leather.

Trivia time - what model year was it was the SR5 trim name dropped from the Sport and Offroad models?

SR5 was a suffix to the TRD Sport and TRD Offroad trimlines. That's all it was - a trim badge suffix, which became omitted during a certain year. There were no major changes to the options of either the Sport or Offroad trims.

Since I see questions and responses on the headlights, and I went through the process of getting new TSB headlights for free - there ARE two different styles of headlights. The standard headlights have silver bezels which match the reflectors. The 'Sport' headlights have smoked bezels and silver reflectors. The Sport lenses were introduced for the TRD Sport and TRD Offroad models during one of the model years...and not everyone with an Offroad has the Sport colored headlights. The standard headlights are used for on all other trims. The headlights were quietly TSB'd for 2005-2011 model years for melting DTL/turn signal amber lenses. The TSB headlights have the same color options, but use a clear GLASS lens instead of an amber plastic lens.

Just this week I saw an older 2nd Gen Silver TRD Sport DCLB with leather. I think it's possible it was a dealer add on.

Keep it, especially if it's trouble free and you love it. No brainer. Start putting a car payment amount into savings each month though if you can, that way it will be there someday down the road if you need it. For a new truck, other expenses etc.
You should be able to run that truck for many more years though. Like someone else suggested maybe spruce it up a bit if you want, if it would help with the "new truck" crave
