    Hey Everyone

1st time post. Just purchased my new 2024 Tacoma Limited a couple of weeks ago. Love the truck and am very happy that my VIN # does not fall within the TSB for automatic trans failure.

I do have one question, that I have not been able to find an answer to. Really hoping someone can help. The digital mirror has a star like icon setting, see picture, that has an on/off setting. When on, the star symbol appears in the upper left corner of the mirror. When off the star symbol disappears. I have read the manual, in particular page 165 which shows all the digital mirror icons and the star icon is not even there. Since it actually has an on/off setting it must do something.

Really hoping someone can explain what this is and what it does!!

    Thank youDigital Mirror.jpg

It drops caltrops to deter tailgating. Also possible that when activated it will shut off the camera when it is blocked and just be a regular mirror. Welcome to the club!!

Thank you Lawfarin!! Appreciate the answers. Was that page in the manual? If it was, I sure didn't see it. Again thank you.

OP. With that setting to ON, put a towel over your digital rearview camera while you are on digital mirror. The one located at the third brake light assembly. Essentially blocking it. Now look at your mirror. Please tell us what happens to your mirror.

Ok Snickers, I did what you asked, even though I'm not sure you weren't pulling my chain. With the star setting on, I see everything. When I cover up the camera, I see nothing.

I see that in my case, I have the position of my rearview mirror low enough that blocking the camera (ultimate in dimming)it acts like in optical mode.

Edit: I think I set the mirror that position cause I was getting double images. Digital and optical or maybe vice versa.

Apparently it’s not in the Tacoma manual. I believe they said that was out of a Highlander or some other Toyota model

if i wear polarized sunglasses I can see both the regular reflection and the camera. Can you just turn it off? It was distracting when I first got it.

I think around the edges of the mirror it was distracting. Where the bezel might be. I moved it around in all different directions until I got it just right. Currently, have rerouted my camera in preparation for my topper. I will be hanging stuff inside of it, so I want the digital camera.
