    All,

I am looking for a good head unit with great navigation features & that is reasonably simple/user friendly. I have a 2006 Tacoma TRD Sport - from searching the web it looks to me that the Kenwoodd DNX772BH is one of the top Double Din head units that has superior navigation? It also looks like the price range is between $900-$1000?

My questions are for those that have had experience with this head unit or know someone that has, is the price range I have listed above correct, & if I were to go with this head unit would I have to buy any additional parts for install in my 2nd Gen Tacoma (I currently have factory radio in truck)?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a kenwood dnx6960. From what I have heard about their products, they really haven't changed appreciably. There are a few minor variations, like the screen size, screen type (i.e. resistive or capacitive touch sensor) and a few "bells and whistles".

I will NEVER buy another kenwood product.
The thing takes forever to boot up, and does so every time you start the engine.
A proper head unit will go into a low power mode that lets it wake up instantly when the ignition goes on, like pressing the power button on a cellphone or tablet.

The hardware (they haven't updated the CPU on them) is hopelessly out of date.
It runs wimo 6 for an OS. This is basically the worst trash ever made.

Do yourself a favor and look at the recent PIONEER AVIC units.

    They are VASTLY superior.

I have a 9990HD. Had it for over 5 yrs. Mine boots up fine has outstanding sound and reliable nav by Garmin. I would have no problem buying another Kenwood.

It shouldn't have to boot up *AT ALL*. There is no benefit to powering off a modern SoC.
The things are dinosaurs, and suitable for 1992.

I bought a Kenwood DNX5120 back in '09, and even that old unit was a thousand times better than the factory nav in my brand new 4Runner.
