Bought the truck with a 6 inch rough country lift and as you can see my upper control arms are way up there and are original and also original struts, I have recently ordered camburg upper control arms , I am obviously going to need to change the struts and the lift spacer that is on now is a problem in order to get this truck done right would it be ok to get 2.5 inch struts with a 2.5in lift spacer? Any suggestions?

But that upper control arm is looking really sketchy, bought the truck this way and made a huge irrational decision at the time

    You’re on the bump stops?

And no, you will need a 6” or 4” spacer. I believe that is the only difference in the 3” to 6” Rough Country.

I had a 4” on my 3rd gen, and I cut the 4” spacer down to 3” and I was able to make it work. I had really good CV and Steering angles.

Those drop Spacers don’t look original RC

    Gotcha

I haven’t done a drop bracket lift on a first gen, but that Spindle top bracket thing looks pretty crazy.

Doing it right is subjective, what do you want to do with this truck? Do you want a mall crawler or a serious off road rig?

Off road, I just purchased camburg upper control arms, but overall the truck does not get driven much and if I do drive it it’s on the weekends in town and don’t ever go over past 60mph I tried contacting rough country but there literally no help at all and when I bought the upper control arms at a local shop they said the kit that’s on there is not the correct parts that’s on there so I’m like clueless at this point lol

Are the springs just so shot that you're sitting on the bump stops? It's not just the upper arm- you've got some other issues to fix before you consider those camburgs

Yes I really need new struts the ones that are on there are the originals this is how I bought the truck, so I’m in a tight spot on how to approach the struts and unsure what size to even get and idk what to do about the strut spacers it’s a mess but I mean it’s okay it’ll eventually get fixed the right way just tryna figure out these next steps

It might help your searching to know that you don't have struts. Tacoma's have Coilovers. It's a subtle but important difference. Are you sure those are stock? They look like they might be some Monroe junk- which might explain the state of things.

Your coils springs are more than likely dead! Because you are resting on the bump stops, I would have the lower ball joints checked.
The design of the early Tacoma's were prone to lower ball joint failure, especially when the suspension rode on the bump stops!
Every bump you hit the suspension is trying to rip the ball joints apart!

I would recommend getting that corrected immediately.

You can get a set of Bilstein 5100's for your truck and use it to adjust your truck height, along with those sketchy looking spacers. (Not as Fan of RC)

    Good Luck!

That's because bracket lift kits don't change suspension geometry and why stock UCAs also run fine even at the stange angle.

Just replaced lower ball joints a few months ago so those are good and yes they are stock I did have pictures of them up close with the part number and when checking Toyota they are discontinued, bought the truck at 157k miles and it’s currently at 161k and mind me I bought the truck all the way in Portland Oregon and made it alllllll the way back to texas!! I do appreciate all this feed back and also I did replace the left and right tie rods so I’m getting there as far as getting everything fixed as you can say
