Just checking in here to see what to expect for a ballpark on a re-gear cost. Looking to put in the Nitro 4.88 front and rear to my 2017 OffRoad. The Nitro package is about $1,500 here: http://www.nitro-gear.com/GPTACO2016-4-88-8-75-p/gptaco2016-4.88-8.75.htm

So I guess it comes down to the average hours and shop cost to do the install. Can anyone let me know that they had to fork over to get'er done?

Imma hijack this thread and ask a follow up question. Do you have to regear the front if you regear the rear with 4x4?

Or you put different size tires front and rear to account for the difference in gearing!

Leave the higher gearing up front. Front wheels will spin faster and help drag you through the obstacle better!:mudding:

suspect the lower cost (gears and install) would have been for the gears with a mini install kit ? If not that is a steal of a deal!

Six States Distributors in Ogden Utah just quoted me $1208 front and $1178 rear with master kits, gears and labor. That was Yukon gears. They need the truck for 5 days and offer 24K miles or 24 month warranty.

it really does depend tho, you can get the REM polished and do all the extras? adding a front locker? that'll cost more. @JerryTaco did a great write up you can read here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-4-88-mega-thread.511967/

If you can take just the pumpkins to the shop that will save you lots of money on the labor. Also, if you have less than 10K on the truck you really don't need the master kit and that will save you couple of hundred dollars. I spoke with Rearend Specialties in south bay and they said they will do both of the pumpkins for for $400.

ECGS now has front and rear assembled 3rds with 4.88's. Total cost is like $1600 after you get your core deposit back.

It depends on who’s doing it and how good they are (as well as the axle itself, some are easier due to design.) Some places charge flat rate and some hourly. Expect $300 per axle +++/- . That is for gearing change only. If there is a locker install it could easily double depending on type.

OP if you're good with tools it's not all that hard to install you re own gears and posi . the main thing is making sure your contact pattern on the ring gear is within spec
