I have a 2008 Tacoma 4 door 4x4. I just installed bilstein 5100 front and back and am looking to get up to 3 to 3.5 inches of lift. I have read about people going with 885 emu coil springs and either adding a 1/2 inch plate or putting the bilsteins on the 2nd notch. I have also read of people going with the 887 emu coil springs and leaving the bilsteins on the zero notch. But those who go with the 887 seem to recommend getting a UCA. I don’t know what UCA I would go with for that setup and how much that would cost. Would really appreciate some input on what set up would be the best for 3 inches of lift and possibly 3.5. I do care about ride quality but it being a lifted truck with 33 inch tires I know it’s not gonna ride like a cadillac. Also, I did have taco lean before installing the bilsteins but now I don’t, will that come back or do I need to add a spacer on the driver side?

Ouch you are looking for issues is all I can say. Good luck with whatever you go with.

Only thing I will add is research then more research, and when you think you know what you're doing research some more.

I have OME 887's up front with 5100's at about 3 inches and aftermarket UCA's and I would never recommend going over 3 inches. You don't care about ride quality then throw some hockey puck spacers up front and blocks in the rear and be done with it.

I’m a little confused. So are you over 3 inches or right at? and are you not recommending being at 3 inches? Also why would you not recommend this over spacers?

I am just about at 3 inches, most will say 2.5 is better due to wear on parts etc. You are talking 3.5 inches which is NOT RECOMMENDED.

Generally anything over 3 inches is hard on CV joints and is not recommended. If you notice the 4-6 inch kits are all drop bracket to help the CV joints. So 3.5 is bad mmmkay.

5100s/885s im sitting at 2.5/2.85, my cv boots already hate their life, so do my stock ucas. I really don't see the point on trying to achieve another half inch of lift, but that's just my 2 cents.

In a few weeks it's all changing but currently OME 887's on 5100's up front with JBA Standard High Caster UCA's and in the rear an ICON 3 Leaf Progressive AAL with overload in and ICON 2.0 shocks

Hell, I’m on 885’s and I got UCA’s. If you get OME coils do NOT set the 5100’s to anything other than 0. Going above 2.5” you need UCA’s.

Are you at 3 inches of lift and would you recommend this set up?

I think it rides great. I’m at 2.5” or so of lift. 5100’s all around, 3 leaf AAL, 885’s, and JBA upper control arms with 285 E load tires.

3" lift on 33 inch Nitto's with 18" Fuel wheels. N-Fab step bars. Husky floor liners.
I have a basic 3" lift with coil spacer on top in the front and add a leaf in the rear. Been riding on this for three years now. What have I been missing or damaging by keeping my factory UCA's. It drives great with no rubbing on 33's and tires are wearing evenly and I rotate every 5k. Maybe UCA's are needed for offroad where long travel comes unto play just guessing but my offroading is just GA red clay on the roads at my huntin land. I prefer to go around shit instead of through it if possible.
