What can I use to cover the intake in the passengers fender well?

Now I don’t want to buy a snorkel anytime soon, but I’m curious if I am going to run into problems leaving the intake in the fender exposed. I live in SoCal so not much rain, but I’m worried if I do use it during the rain that water will get inside. Also worried about mud and other debri possibly finding its way up there. Am I safe or should I be concerned?

It's not a big deal, your engine bay will get a bit dirtier but really, that's all.

I'd get a snorkel if I could afford it. Mine are cut too and the intake sucks up all kinds of shit. Have to constantly take out the filter and shake all the debris out or buy new ones

I don’t go thru much water & especially none that is as tall as the fender well. I’m hoping that I won’t run into problems

Why did you cut them out? Mine tucked in nicely and haven't had any issues with an increase of dirt in my air filter.

Even if you you aren't crossing deep water, the water will get churned up into your intake from the tire. You will also eat a ton of dust. It is really not a good idea to leave that open.

I would either add a snorkel, or do a cowl induction mod. It sounds like the cowl induction is a better option for you, unless you just want the bling. Mine has been awesome, and I wheel my truck in all kinds of conditions. Here is a link to my thread. This mod is also very low cost: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cowl-induction-snorkel.525314/

I actually forgot that the hole is covered by the stock intake. It's been so long since I had my intake there, lol. So yeah. You'll just get some debris in the filter now and then.

There is a thread on here showing a slick way or three to re-duct the intake tube up to the plenum box - just ahead of the windshield. Its cheap and effective.

Incase anyone was wondering. I ended up using pan liner from Home Depot to cover up the intake side. It’s not 100% covered because the tires would tear it up, but I think it’s great for now.
