As many here may know. I recently bought and installed a new set of Diode Dynamics SS3 Back Lit MAX Fogs. A few months after their installation. A deer took out the driver's side lamp along with half of my front bumper. The people at DD tell me that they will replace the light for free if I return the one that was damaged. I have to totally give it up to these guys. Once the prerequisites were met. A gentleman named Griffin saw that my replacement light and bracket was promptly sent to me. My baby is back in Black with both of her Diode Dynamic shining is nice and bright. Thank you Griffen for caring. Your care has earned you another of what I’m sure is many lifetime clients.

(Not many of us here may know)

Deer took out your light, and you expect DD to take care of you?

The fact that they even offered to replace it (if you send the broke one) is crazy, as the incident has nothing to do with DD.

I guess I'm confused...it broke your light, and you just drove off without it? If I hit something, first thing I'm doing is pulling over and assessing damage.

This is why you've got insurance; make it work for you or nut up to 'shit happens' cause that's exactly what happened.

you hit a deer. This is an auto insurance matter not a diode dynamics matter.

    what do you not understand

warranty means against mfg defect. The way life always has been. Google it.

if you had Morimoto or any other brand it would have nothing to do with hitting a deer.

I bent my metal ridge wallet and put a dent in my hydroflask dropping it. Is that covered by warranty? Probably not.

$400ish light free for no reason, good one

You’re asking them to give you free lights because you hit a deer? That’s beyond needy and entitled to even ask and the fact that they offered to hook you up if you can provide the broken light is already excellent customer service. Ask your insurance to get you a new light or just man up and buy one if you don’t want to go that route.

Although it could be worse, this guy wanted to commit fraud (and edited his post to hide it later)

OP, yes you are expecting way too much.

To answer the question. YES! You are expecting too much. Accidents suck, so suck it up and buy a new one and move on.

I would have never thought to call them and ask for a replacement. Yes, you're expecting to much.

When the hell did people start twisting warranties and customer service into thinking if they buy something the company should be obligated to provide them with a replacement if they break it?

Also, WTF would they want with a "lifelong avocet" in the first place? (An avocet is a long legged shore bird.) Pretty sure you meant a "lifelong advocate/patron" but you need to see this from a business perspective. Let's break it down.

What profit margin do you think there is in one of those lights? 10%? 20%? Maybe 25% if they are lucky. Why would they replace a light for you that isn't within the scope of the warranty? You paid for one light, get a second, and they have now taken a loss. Do you think your advocating and patronage is worth that to them? Especially since you are now complaining that their more than generous offer to replace it isn't fair? You would likely bring them more "business" in the form of like minded folks who want the company to be beholden to them for a few hundred dollars. You're support isn't worth the trouble to a business.

Yes, I think you are expecting too much.

I also think, people in general expect to much “for free” anymore.

No offense to you OP. Don’t take it personal.
I just think people in today’s society are spoiled.

I’d go without a fog light, before asking for a “free” one.

Then he’ll either buy a new one, buy a different set, or do with out.

If that’s the case, maybe he should consider adding “add-ons” to his policy?

well considering $8/mo renters insurance covers items in vehicle, and in some places vehicle is viewed as ones property and extension of it
renters insurance might even cover it as well

Why would a vehicle item, on a vehicle, not be covered under someone's auto policy?

A fog light would fall under the same items like a bumper or door skin.

Unless of course the OP has liability which...blows my mind how many people in this forum do.

    Maybe….. I have no idea.
Personally, I’d be asking myself if making a claim is worth it,
Insurance SUCKS, is it worth $450 to have the rates go up?
Or is it better to just spend $450 and replace them myself?
Better yet, do you need a $450 fog lights?
    If not, Money saved.

I just can’t understand the thought process of some people.

Accessories/aftermarket items are not generally covered unless you have additional coverage for them. A stock fog light would be covered, but aftermarket is a gamble.

All my aftermarket items were/are covered and I had them outlined in my policy in the event that I had an accident. Falls under my comprehensive with $0 deductible.

I seem to fall in the smaller category of people that know what they pay for it seems (I see a windshield thread once a week in the 3rd Gen section).

If you pay for something, and don't know what you're paying for, you deserve to be taken for your money. It's not unreasonable to ask for things in writing.

Depends on the state you are in and what company you are with. I specifically asked on my policy and they said aftermarket items are covered under a separate accessory portion that you can opt for at whatever the fee was. If yours covers it under the base policy, then that's great, but that doesn't mean everyone's insurance works the same. I guess we both assumed that, eh?

    I have to admit.
I don’t know if my police covers “add-on”.
But I lost about $7,000 in “add on” in 2006 when I sold my 1st Gen.
There’s a reason my profile says “Stock”.

    I learned my lesson…..
I didn’t need or use 90% of the stuff I added to my 1st Gen.

I do know how much property damage and medical my insurance pays.
That more important to me than anything added on to the truck.

Property and medical expenses will bankrupt you.
