    I know someone swapping a LS into a 1992(?) Lexus SC430.
    He's using a Holley standalone ECU ($1400).

What is this fascination with LS swaps into a Tacoma?

It was the same in the 1980's putting a built sbc into a Toyota 4x4 p/up

Old hat and overdone. Let me know when someone swaps in two big blocks tied together.

Feel like I found a swap page on instagram and am reading the trolling - what's wrong with good aftermarket support and easy to find oem replacement and upgrade parts - that's saying tons more than you can for Toyota motors and I've swapped a Toyota engine into my truck with a supercharger in only because I didn't have what I needed as far as skills go to swap in a V8 or better 6.

So you end up with a truck that can't pass inspection in 99% of the jurisdictions, and can't handle or brake to match the hp. Why not put the tacoma 4.0 in a Vette?

If you're doing it because you're bored, fine. Otherwise it's an impractical project. It's no different than the Chevy/Ford V8 CJ swaps when I was a kid. Fun while it was a project but huge disappointment when it was done.

You don't have your facts straight. Several states allow engine swaps. There are several BBK setups on here. Mini trucks are something that have modification communities decades old swapping out engines to get more power and the motorsport of desert racing pickup trucks revolves around the LS motor.

    Right!

Does the $5k budget include upgraded suspension and brakes? I doubt it.

But, if you want a dangerously fast taco and enjoy constantly breaking stuff, go for it!

So that $5K budget includes the engine, trans, rearend, ECU and wiring harness, engine and trans swap mounts, dash/instrument integration, etc? Total BS. Can't be done.
