Hey guys, i got 2 leaks going on right now and i think i found one but im not sure about this roof leak. I posted a picture of the location. I checked the roof rack stripping. Even pulled stripping back and poured water. Thought maybe it was the third brake light but that seemed fine and poured water on it. Plus someone else had a third brake light leak and it leaked in the back. Mine is in the front. Now you might be thinking its the front windshield but shouldn't it run down my windshield onto my dash? Theres only 2 tiny rust spots and they dont seem to go deep at all. Its also not anywhere else on my roof but in the picture.
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

Windshield is the only possible intrusion point, how the water should run once past the seal is speculative

    Good luck with it!

My other leak is on driver floor. Only happens during rain. Weather stripping looks fine but if it is bad can i just put adhesive underneath or do you replace it? It looks fine but it is an 07.

Update: apparently its on passenger side too. Maybe its all from windshield.

That I don’t know. Somewhere there’s a thread about running caulk backing inside the hollow portion of the weatherstripping to “balloon” it out and seal better but no experience personally.

My best advice would be to let someone professional do the windshield, tell them to pay special attention to sealing it good because you suspect a leak, then see how much rain still gets on your floorboard.

I played with it some more. Put a water hose on it and i think it might be the front end of weather strip where it meets the windshield. I think it then runs to the middle. I glued this part up with Flex Seal. This part isnt suppose to drain is it? Picture where I'm pointing is where it was dripping. Weather stripping for the door is dry inside.

If the windshield was replaced, that’s most likely your problem. They failed the installation. Water migrates and ends up somewhere else.

I bet you have it fixed, nothing up there but a sunroof (which on a 2nd gen you definitely don’t have) should drain inside the A pillar.
Curious if the Flex Seal takes care of it, I hear that’s some good shit but I’ve never used it!

    Nice job troubleshooting!

Yea i hope so. Im going to let it dry and throw some more water on it and see if that did the trick. Windshield is original as far as i know. Now the rear one was replaced i think. Correct my if im wrong but didnt most if not all Tacomas have a sliding back window? Mines solid... Which means maybe not all do but other things make me think it was replaced.

Check the corner of the windshield. It should tell you the brand.

So it rained on the side a i plugged up and didnt leak but water did come out when i made some turns so i think it come in the passenger side. I blasted water down the passenger side today and got a lot of water in the cab so I'm even more convinced this is the source.

Something i noticed though was a lot of dirt and tiny crack lines. I went ahead and washed and dried the whole area and sprayed some clear coat in there to prevent any further rust. Yall might want to do some maintenance under yalls cargo rack weather guards.

Check down near the base of the windshield too at its lower corner. There is a spot of sealant there under the black trim/cowl plastics that can fall apart over time.

I'll do that but for sure it's leaking higher up than that.

I had that exact same issue in my 09 and it was fixed when I replaced my windshield. My state has windshield replace as a non-deductible item so it was free for me.
